Discover the Pyrenees Orientales while staying in an authentic farmhouse

Near Collioure and Perpignan, in a small quiet village 8 km from the beaches, Saint Génis des Fontaines, this authentic early 20th century farmhouse was renovated in 2019 with all modern comforts, you will feel at home in this old building with a decidedly contemporary interior style.

The name of the house remains emblematic, it would come from its builder from a family of Perpignan merchants but we cannot forget its meaning: the word “puig” means “summit” in Catalan, it is true that the farmhouse faces 2 emblematic peaks of the Catalan country: the Pic du Néoulous, summit of the Massif des Albères and the Canigou, the sacred mountain of the Catalans…

This large charming cottage benefits from a garden planted with large palm trees and oleanders typical of the region, a private salt water swimming pool (open from May to October), with a small pool for children or to quietly discuss a glass by hand, sunbaths and parasols are at your disposal.

The house offers two large terraces, which will allow you to have breakfast in the sun facing the pool and lunch in the shade of the hundred-year-old plane trees on the courtyard side. You will be completely out of sight since there is no neighborhood within 400 meters, you will only have to enjoy the view of the mountain and the surrounding countryside.

The house is spacious and comfortable, for 10/12 people: large living room, dining room, fully equipped open kitchen, 4 bedrooms, 1 on the ground floor of more than 30 m², 4 bathrooms, 5 toilets, household linen is provided.

The property is closed, bordered by an irrigation channel, it is accessed by a small country road, with parking and a secure gate.

The villages of the Albères, as they are called here, are all located less than 5 km away, many restaurants will allow you to discover Mediterranean cuisine, fresh fish, cold cuts, grilled meats, aiöli, Roussillon wine, everything to delight your taste buds…

Mas Puig is ideally located in the heart of the Roussillon plain to provide easy access to all the major tourist attractions in the region. Spain is very close (30 km) and we vary the pleasures between North and South Catalonia…

Catalonia

You can enjoy the coast only a few minutes away, the seaside resorts from Saint Marie to Argelès sur mer will delight lovers of the immense sandy beaches and their activities: games for children, sailing sports, water sports, ice cream cones, bars, restaurants and casino, holidays along the water… but the ideal is to have the choice and the rocky coast takes over at the level of the “Racou”, emblematic family beach where the Albères massif flows into the Mediterranean, we are well the most eastern of the Pyrenees: the Pyrénées Orientales. Then rise up, coves with a thousand shades of blue… the discovery becomes quieter and quieter either on board a canoe or a paddle or equipped with a mask and a snorkel or bottles to discover the underwater richness of the Cerbere-Banyuls Reserve, the Cap Creus Nature Reserve in Spain, the Vermeille Coast and its wrecks.

At the bend in the road, you can stroll through the typical villages of Collioure, nicknamed the pearl of the Côte Vermeille, it is the most famous village in our region, Banyuls sur Mer to taste a delicious “20 years old” until Cadaques, on the Spanish side, its white houses with blue shutters, visit of the Dalí house and some tapas, the loop is complete…

Languedoc Roussillon vineyards

The hinterland between vineyards and orchards is to be discovered absolutely: Céret and its museum of modern art, Romanesque art, omnipresent in the region, do not miss this year the 1000th anniversary of the lintel of the Church of Saint Génis des Fontaines, for example, (1019/1020-2019/2020); the cathedral and cloister of Elne are jewels, the priory of Serrabone or the extraordinary abbeys of Saint Martin du Canigou and Saint Michel de Cuxà are essential…

As Salvador Dali said, Perpignan is the “World Centre”, where you will discover the palace of the kings of Majorca, the Castillet, the city’s emblematic gateway (14th century), the Campo Santo cloister-cemetery (14th century), the Casa Xanxo (16th century) which houses the Heritage House, and the magnificent Hôtel Pams (19th century).

All this heritage is the scene of beautiful concerts and festivals also on the programme throughout the summer period.

If you want a natural holiday, the place is for you, the charm of the countryside to enjoy without moderation!

Hiking enthusiasts will long remember the Catalan Country, located between the sea and the mountains: Canigou, Carlit, the Bouillouses lakes, the coastal path, the Carança gorges, from simple walks to grandiose hikes, you will find paths for all tastes and all levels

Our wonderful region can also be discovered by bike: the Albères- Côte Vermeille cycling area extends from the last foothills of the Pyrenees to the shores of the Mediterranean and passes 2km from Mas Puig.

The pleasures of cycling are many, whether you are a family outing on the cycle routes, a green route or a more sporty mountain bike tour in the Albères mountains. The itinerary La Méditerranée à vélo, the Euro vélo 8 that arrives from Cyprus, crosses the entire territory… a beautiful invitation to roaming.
