5 reasons composite cladding is superior to single skin and why it’s worth the investment
When a business makes a big investment, such as a steel building, it’s easy to look only at what it will cost now and to spend as little as possible to get the job done. And we’d agree there are times when that’s absolutely the right thing to do. However, there are also times when rather than a shrewd saving, the result is a false economy.
We think opting for single skin rather than Composite cladding very often falls into the latter category; here’s why.
Speed of construction
While composite panels may cost more initially, they represent a saving in construction time. As insulation is an intrinsic element of the panel, there is no need for further work to insulate the building and/or improve the internal appearance.
Stable environment
Condensation can be an issue with steel buildings. That’s not bad design, it’s just physics. Say it’s warm inside and cool outside; when that warm air hits a cold external surface moisture is deposited, which then drips into the main body of the building. That can lead to discomfort for users and damage to stored items.
Composite cladding provides a stable environment, preventing condensation.
Thermal properties
Depending on how your steel building is to be used, it may be necessary to heat it in cold weather. As well as causing condensation, single skin cladding will release that heat into the external atmosphere.
In warmer weather it will absorb heat and transfer it to the interior of the building, so you may have to cool it down.
Composite cladding offers a highly consistent insulation performance, meaning it will help keep the heat in when it’s cold and out when it’s warm. It maintains a more even temperature, making the building more comfortable for users and saving money.
No limitation to usage
If internal temperature and humidity aren’t an issue, and drips from condensation won’t cause problems, single skin buildings can be a cost-effective option.
However, if temperature, humidity and condensation matter, then composite cladding is the best option.
Fire safety
In the event of a fire, you first want to be confident that people are protected and then that property is safe. When it comes to composite cladding fire protection is built into the panels, meaning they will resist the effects of fire.
