Approval Process

What Happens Between Your Building Order and the Start Date?

The point where you make the decision to order a Steel building marks the end of one process and the beginning of the next. It may feel as though it’s just an in-between stage – the stage prior to commencement of Construction, which is where you start to see tangible benefits – but many hugely important tasks and decisions are dealt with that make sure you get the best return on your investment.

So, what can you expect to happen between placing the order and the start date for construction? Here’s an overview.

The first thing we’ll do is appoint a project Manager and conduct a handover meeting between the sales team and the operations team. We’ll make sure all the relevant information is passed on and recorded and that you are kept up to date and introduced to your primary contact for the build.

Next, we’ll start the ball rolling on processing and procurement. What we do, in what order, and how long it takes will depend on the complexity of the project. Obviously a simple open-sided steel structure will take less time than a two-storey extension with a mezzanine! However, this stage is likely to involve instructing manufacturers to begin working on structural calculations and foundation drawings, and contacting building control.

You can expect a site visit early on, especially if we need to conduct a survey or take into account existing buildings. This is a great opportunity for you to meet your project manager, who’ll be your main point of contact throughout the building process.

The information we gather will allow us to complete construction drawings, showing everything in detail. This means we – and you – can be confident that every little thing has been taken care of and will be engineered to the exact requirements. Once we’ve inspected the drawings, we’ll send them to you for final approval.

This is a key stage in the process. It’s only by checking every last detail, no matter how small or insignificant it might seem to be, that we can achieve the high standards we set ourselves.

Once we have your approval, we’ll give the manufacturers the go ahead to start making the component parts of the building. In the meantime, the project manager will take care of the logistical elements of the build – such as dealing with the official paperwork, sorting out plant hire and arranging aggregate deliveries for groundworks.

Working from the date set for commencement of construction, every aspect of the job, right down to the daily timetable for site teams, will be scheduled.

Excellence doesn’t happen by chance, it has to be designed in and carefully planned. At any stage we know where the project should be, where our people should be and what they should be doing.

The time between placing an order and seeing things start to arrive on site might feel like an unnecessary delay, but it’s when we conduct some of the most necessary tasks. The time and care we spend on planning is saved many times over when it comes to construction. This is ‘measure twice, cut once’ taken to another level!

If you are planning to erect a steel building, or extend an existing building get in touch. We’ll be happy to walk you through the process we use to get you the right building that works for you and your business.
