How To Save Your Cell Phone Number

How To Save Your Cell Phone Number – Smartphones are for more than games and social media. They can actually save your life. That’s because smartphones allow you to install safety apps and features that automatically alert emergency services when you experience things like a car accident, medical problem, or natural disaster.

We asked tech experts which apps work best for the most common emergencies — and got instructions for installing them. Their advice will help you turn your smartphone into an SOS delivery system – even if you’re not super tech-savvy. Below are the six apps they recommend to ensure your phone can save your life in a crisis.

If you can’t reach your cell, you can still use it to secure help. In fact, the iPhone’s voice-activated assistant, Siri, has been in the news for saving lives, including last January when a woman used it to call 911 after falling while alone in her apartment. “Both iPhones and Androids have this feature,” says Zak Kann of SmartGeekHome.com.

How Do I Add/update A Phone Number To My Ad

Speak, iPhones and Androids allow you to call 911 by pressing the sleep or wake button five times.

For Lucia Chang, a California resident who helps seniors navigate technology, phone apps have been invaluable in dealing with extreme weather conditions. To be warned about earthquakes, she suggests the free MyShake app. “I was recently warned of a 5.1 quake with enough notice to crawl under a table before the shaking reached my location,” she says. She has also avoided flooded areas using the free MyRadar weather app. Do you live in a fire prone area? Try free apps like Firespot: Wildfire App or Fireguard Wildfire Tracker for Apple and Android devices that alert you to wildfires.

Also smart: If the natural disaster is over, download the FEMA app and the First Aid: American Red Cross app; the former shares ways to stay safe during power outages, while the latter provides instructions in case of damage after a weather event.

Whether you’ve experienced a medical problem or a car accident, free apps can guide emergency responders to you. “SirenGPS sends your location and a message that you need help to first responders,” says technology engineer Walter Lappert. “There’s also a great app called Zello Walkie-Talkie — it connects you with others near you, including first responders looking to coordinate rescue efforts.”

Phone Backup And A New Storage Manager In The Google One App

Also smart: Worried about an elderly relative who lives alone? The free Snug Safety app prompts seniors to check in daily. If they miss a check-in, it texts their emergency contact.

Free apps such as Cardiio (from MIT Media Lab) and FibriCheck use light technology in your phone’s camera to detect an irregular heartbeat. Simply place your finger over the phone’s camera lens to read.

Not sure if you have a cold or the flu? At your next telemedicine appointment, ask your doctor for a code to access ResAppDx. The app listens to your cough and then sends the results to your doctor.

About one in 15 Americans has sleep apnea (a condition in which breathing starts and stops during the night). Unfortunately, many people don’t know they have it. Consider the free app SnoreLab, which monitors sounds and movements while you sleep and alerts you to signs of sleep disorders.

How To Get A Second Phone Number Without A Landline Or Sim Card

Use the left and right arrow keys to navigate between menu items. Use the right arrow key to enter submenus. Use escape to exit the menu. Use the up and down arrow keys to explore. Use the left arrow key to go back to the parent list. If you’re moving to Europe from the US, porting your phone to Google Voice and then buying a SIM card is cheap, easy and allows you to keep access to your beloved US mobile number. By the end of this post, you will be able to leave your current provider and have your first 5GB of data in your new country for around $30.

The process described below is best for people who are actually moving to another country and still want access to the US number. If you’re going on a quick trip, there’s no need to port your number, as you’ll likely easily revert to your number when you get home.

IMPORTANT: I highly recommend creating your Google Voice account and beginning the porting process described below 24-48 hours before your departure time. This gives you enough time to complete the necessary US-based verification.

Remember that when you port your number, your mobile contract with Verizon, ATT, etc ends. If you haven’t paid off your phone (as is the case with most recent plans), you will be billed for the remaining balance on your final bill .

How To Make A Private Call: 3 Methods That Work

First, let me explain what Google Voice will and will not allow you to do with your current mobile number in a foreign country.

The advantages of using Google Voice totally outweigh the minor disadvantages and are far cheaper than keeping an expensive US mobile plan.

Now that you have a basic understanding of what to expect, you can get started with creating your Google Voice account. Be careful to choose the correct email at the beginning and go through the process of creating a Google Voice number (this will be automatically replaced when your current mobile number is ported).

Then download the Google Voice app on your mobile device and any other devices that will have access to WiFi while you are abroad.

Places To Get A Free Cell Phone (and Service)

This part of the process will cost you $20 and will require you to know your current mobile plan account number, billing information and pin/last 4 digits of your social.

This information helps Google connect to your provider, verify that you have the privilege to make this change, and then port the number.

Once your number is ported, all phone calls and text messages will be sent to your Google Voice account.

It is important to note some nuances about Google Voice. When you use the mobile app and someone calls you, you will only receive a missed call and/or voicemail notification (provided you enable the optional notifications).

Saving Gorillas One Cell Phone At A Time

This was confusing to me at first because on the computer you can actually hear a ring and answer a phone call through Google Hangouts. For me, it is enough to see a missed call/voicemail and then call the person back. Not the end of the world.

Now that you’ve ported your number, it’s time to tell your callers what the deal is. I will remember the range of people who call you…family, friends, doctors, employers, etc. and write a script accordingly.

I used the following script to specify how I want others to communicate with me while I am out of the US. Feel free to use this directly (provided you have iMessage and Facebook) or edit it however you like.

“Hi, you’ve reached . I’m currently traveling in Europe and no longer have access to a US phone line. If you’d like to get in touch, send me an iMessage or email at , or you can find me on Facebook. Thanks bye.”

Cellphone Battery Life: Should You Charge Your Phone Overnight Or Not?

Once you have your script ready, navigate to your Google Voice account. Click the menu icon > Settings > Scroll down to Voicemail > Record a greeting.

Before leaving the US, I recommend that you check that the mobile device is unlocked and compatible with foreign SIM cards. Most mobile devices are compatible, but if you have an older phone, you may need to upgrade, and if your phone is not unlocked, your carrier will tell you what to do.

When you get to your destination, go to your local electronics store (mine was less than a mile away) and ask for a SIM card. I got a 5GB SIM card for €9.95 or about $11.30. This is in Amsterdam… prices and availability may vary depending on where you are in Europe.

Take the SIM card home, pop out your old SIM card with a safety pin or similar and replace it with the new SIM card. You must activate your card by calling a number and pressing a button. The SIM card packaging will have this information, or you can try calling someone and listening to the prompt on how to activate your SIM card.

My.phone.com User Settings

When you run out of data, simply reload your SIM card, which you can now do via apps you download to your mobile device. Simple!

While you may lose the ability to have someone call you instantly on your US cell phone number, you still have SO many free options to communicate with others around the world. I’ll list a few below if you need some inspiration.

Finally, remember that you are in a foreign place with different traditions and culture. Embrace this by not living on your phone. Talk to a stranger, go to meet-up events, and only call home when you need to. I hope this information helps and you have a great trip!Over the past few years, the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) has shown how mobile phone (wireless) customers prefer the service of smaller carriers, which is up to 1% more an overall score of 80. TracFone Wireless is the best among individual companies going up
