Saving your Android phone’s battery is a constant battle. In order to avoid unbehaving apps and overloaded design, Google has added several power saving features to its mobile operating system over the years. Your options go beyond Battery Saver, too, so you can customize the settings to suit your needs.

Back in 2014, Google introduced a feature called Battery Saver to get more life out of your phone when it’s about to drop. When you enable Battery Saver mode, Android controls your phone’s performance, limits background data usage, and reduces things like vibration to save juice. What exactly happens when you disable Battery Saver depends on your phone’s design. For example, Pixel 3 and newer phones automatically turn on the Dark Theme, stop images and apps from running in the background, and turn off location services when the screen is off. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than your phone being completely dead.

You can turn on Battery Saver mode at any time. Just go to Settings, Battery, and then Battery Saver. Once there, select Use Battery Saver to enable it.

How To Set Power Saving Mode On Samsung Mobile Device?

You will also see an option to have this mode open automatically. That way, whenever you start to feel uncomfortable with the juice left on your device, Android will try to stretch the battery as far as it can go before it finally dies.

To reset it, go to Battery Saver and click on Set settings. There, you will have two options: choose From your custom to allow Android to turn on automatically if your device thinks it might die before charging your device. You can also choose From percentage, and use the slider to determine how much you want your battery to reach (from 5 to 75 percent) before Android turns on Battery Saver.

If you often rely on this mode, add a shortcut to the Quick Settings panel, which you will see when you open the notification drawer (swipe down from the top of the screen with one finger) or show the full menu (swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers). For easy access to Battery Saver, click the pencil in the left corner of the Quick Settings menu, then touch and drag the Battery Saver button in Quick Settings.

Have you ever noticed that some notifications seem to come up right when you turn on the screen? That’s the result of Doze, a battery-saving feature that puts your phone into deep sleep when idle. Keep in mind that because it runs automatically in the background, the official name of this feature only depends on the manufacturer—you won’t find any clear references to it in your phone’s Settings menu.

How To Use Android’s Battery Saver And Other Power Saving Tools

If your screen is turned off for a while, your phone will start to sleep. Doze mode, according to Google, blocks access to the network and stops any syncs. Instead, it waits for periodic “repair windows,” where the phone briefly wakes up, to perform those tasks. This means that you will still receive notifications, but they may be delayed, because they only come at those times. So-called “high priority” notifications such as texts and phone calls will continue to come through immediately, but emails, Facebook messages, and other low-key notifications may disappear.

If the screen is turned off and your phone doesn’t work at all—that is, stay
