Angus Cloud, Beloved ‘Fez’ from Euphoria, Passes Away at 25

Angus Cloud, renowned for his role as Fezco “Fez” O’Neill, the drug dealer on HBO’s acclaimed series Euphoria, tragically passed away at the young age of 25.

According to his publicist, Angus Cloud breathed his last on Monday at his family residence in Oakland, California. His memorable portrayal on the teen drama earned him widespread acclaim and left an indelible mark on the hearts of many fans. He will be dearly missed and remembered for his talent and contributions to the entertainment industry.

“It is with the heaviest heart that we had to say goodbye to an incredible human today,” said the Cloud family.

Cloud attended his father’s funeral in Ireland last week and, according to his family, “intensely struggled with this loss”.

There was some comfort in knowing he was now “reunited with his dad, who was his best friend”, they said in a statement.

“Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence,” it said.

“We hope the world remembers him for his humour, laughter and love for everyone.”

Just a fortnight ago, Angus Cloud shared a touching tribute on Instagram, posting a photo of his father with the words “miss u breh.”

As of now, the cause of Angus Cloud’s passing remains unconfirmed.

Before his breakthrough role as Fezco “Fez” O’Neill on Euphoria, Angus had minor acting credits in films like North Hollywood and The Line. Additionally, he showcased his talent in several music videos for artists such as Becky G, Karol G, and Juice WRLD.

However, it was his portrayal of the high school drug dealer Fez that propelled his career to new heights. The role garnered widespread recognition and served as a turning point in his journey as an actor. His undeniable talent and dedication to his craft resonated with audiences and established him as a promising talent in the entertainment industry. Angus Cloud’s presence and contribution will be greatly missed.

The role in Euphoria proved to be a transformative experience for Angus Cloud, propelling him to become a breakout star, as highlighted by the Hollywood Reporter. His portrayal of Fezco “Fez” O’Neill resonated with viewers, leading to the expansion of his character in the second season, a testament to his exceptional talent and dedication to the role.

However, during an interview with Variety last year, Angus Cloud expressed his discomfort with fan comparisons to his on-screen character. It is not uncommon for actors to face challenges when their real-life persona becomes intertwined with the characters they portray on television. Cloud’s desire to be recognized as an individual separate from his role highlights the importance of acknowledging actors for their unique abilities and the versatility they bring to various roles.

Despite the challenges, Angus Cloud’s remarkable performance and the impact he made on the show will undoubtedly be remembered and cherished by fans and colleagues alike. His untimely passing leaves behind a legacy of talent and promise in the entertainment world.

“It’s not that simple,” he said. “I brought a lot to the character.”

As a teenager, he suffered a traumatic brain injury, which is partially responsible for his slow-paced voice on the show.

Angus Cloud had no aspirations to become an actor. While working at a chicken and waffle joint, he was unexpectedly spotted by a casting agent on the street, leading to his breakthrough role as Fez on Euphoria.

“I was confused and I didn’t want to give her my phone number,” Cloud told GQ. “I thought it was a scam.”

After first airing in June 2019, Euphoria quickly became a hit and by 2022 was the most tweeted-about TV show of the decade in the US.

The main character, played by Zendaya, is a 17-year-old who struggles with drug abuse, seen on screen taking the deadly opioid fentanyl and injecting morphine.

In 2022, Angus Cloud defended accusations that Euphoria glorified drug use during an interview with TMZ.

Upon hearing the tragic news of Angus Cloud’s passing, Euphoria creator Sam Levinson expressed his deep sorrow, describing him as a unique and exceptionally talented individual, gone much too soon.

Sydney Martin, rumored to be in an on-off relationship with Cloud, shared broken heart emojis on Instagram after the announcement of his death.

Javon “Wanna” Walton, who portrayed Cloud’s adoptive brother Ashtray on the show, paid tribute on Instagram, saying “Rest easy brother.”

The loss of Angus Cloud has left a profound impact on those who knew him, both personally and professionally, and his memory will be cherished by many.

California congresswoman Barbara Lee lamented the loss of “Oakland’s own”, in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter,

“His immense talent touched the lives of countless people. His work & legacy will forever live on and make Oakland proud,” she wrote.

Actress Kerry Washington also posted on the platform: “You will be deeply missed. Rest in power.”

Cloud was immensely talented and a beloved part of the Euphoria family, HBO said in a statement.
