Major Next Step For Stab Vest Manufacturer

Defence Composites the Manchester-based Body Armour manufacturing company announce they will continue the manufacture of selected Jack Ellis body armour products.

This follows the closure of the Jack Ellis manufacturing operation in Scotland and a change in business direction by the JE parent company J&D Wilkie Ltd.

Defence Composites has collaborated with Jack Ellis over the years, jointly manufacturing and supplying stab vests and body armour into the UK and export markets, so this is very much a natural progression.

Much of the heavy equipment, machinery, and tooling previously on the Jack Ellis production line has been purchased and transferred to the new Defence Composites facility, with the intention of duplicating or evolving the Jack Ellis products and adding them to the extensive range already available.

“The Jack Ellis business fits perfectly into our range of products and manufacturing capabilities, since taking this over it has already created new opportunities. Our team are now looking after and working with customers who have purchased Jack Ellis products over the years. This allows Defence Composites to continue to supply customers in particular those larger companies that might need continuity to avoid inconsistencies and liability issues for their PPE”

Craig Mills – Managing Director – Defence Composites Ltd.

This next phase of the business required a move to a larger manufacturing premises giving more space for the new materials, machinery, and additional staff members to join the production team. The consolidated in-house manufacturing facility produces the renowned KR1 polycarbonate stab vests as well as multi threat, stab and spike and ballistic armour all here in the UK.

Defence Composites continue to work closely with customers and stockists to ensure they are getting products they need. Over the last few months have been expanding the product portfolio, with the introduction of new protective body armour, clothing, and gloves to supply a growing customer base both in the UK and overseas.
