We are hiring a full-time, Retreat Center Director for the Maryville Retreat Center. Overlooking beautiful Lake Elliot, the Maryville Retreat Center is in Holly, Michigan, on a 240-acre campus, and offers a uniquely peaceful, pastoral setting perfect for annual conferences, workshops, and private and group retreats.

Maryville Retreat Center is sponsored and managed by the Felician Sisters of North America. Pioneers of social services, the Felician Sisters founded and continue to sponsor hospices, schools, childcare centers, hospitals, after-school programs, homeless shelters, food pantries, nursing homes, affordable housing communities, and missions in Haiti and Canada. SUMMARY:

We are in search of a Retreat Center Director who embodies a passion for outstanding guest and client services, an empathic and strategic leader to manage, coach, and develop retreat staff, and one who infuses enthusiasm into every aspect of their work.

The ideal candidate has proven experience in hospitality and events management, business, and sales acumen in attracting new clients and groups while enthusiastically nurturing relationships with current retreat guests. The Director collaborates with the Program Coordinator and the Dining Supervisor, and partners with staff and sisters to provide exemplary service to all guests. The Director oversees all operations including guest relations, property maintenance, housekeeping, dining, and short- and long-term financial targets.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In this role, the Retreat Center Director plays a key role in nurturing a culture of hospitality at the Maryville Retreat Center. This position necessitates an onsite 40+ workweek commitment to coordinate a dynamic event schedule seamlessly and requires some weekend presence at the center.
  • Be a visible presence in daily operations: offering assistance when needed, acknowledging exceptional performance, promoting positive public relations, and addressing any complaints, concerns, or special requests from guests, clients, and group contacts.
  • Manage important logistical details while partnering with all departments to execute vision and identify opportunities and obstacles.
  • Partner with the human resources department in selecting, hiring, and managing employees.
  • Motivate, mentor, and manage all employees within the Maryville Retreat Center, ensuring adherence to established cultural and core workplace standards. Continue to inspire and engage employees.
  • Focus on long-term strategic planning for center operations and the development of a long-range execution plan.
  • Responsible for the center’s financial success and meeting established financial targets. Ensures all financial obligations are met.
  • Foster and maintain effective lines of communication with all staff members and the sisters onsite at the center.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Mission Advancement to ensure alignment between marketing messages and retreat operations.
  • Sourcing, securing, and owning relationships with vendors for dining/catering, facilities, and events (e.g., photographers, A/V providers).
  • Lead in the long-range planning and immediate execution of overall event agendas and program content in collaboration with all retreat center staff, sisters, and pastoral staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A personality to welcome and put others at ease to carry out the vision, while also having high energy, clear communication skills, organizational and administrative skills, and gifts of hospitality and service.
  • An associate's or bachelor’s degree in event management, business, hospitality, or a related field of study is preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in event and/or hospitality management is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience supervising staff is required.
  • Proven track record in supporting the financial success of an organization.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products including but not limited to Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Experience in facilities management and building partnerships with customers and vendors is required.
  • Experience working in a retreat center or in a non-profit and/or religious environment preferred.
