Sr. Manager, Corporate EHS & Sustainability

Position Summary:

The Sr. Manager, Corporate EHS & Sustainability will provide corporate leadership for MZB-USA's environmental health, safety, and sustainability programs through subject matter expertise and strategic, as well as tactical, guidance to promote a safe and healthy culture for all MZB-USA employees (frontline and administrative). The Manager of EHS & Sustainability will work collaboratively with all departments and divisions of the organization to achieve common goals while exemplifying the MZB Way culture.

Job Duties:

  • Develop both site and corporate level safety policies, SOPs, and other related programs to ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, company, and regulatory standards.
  • Serve as MZB-USA workers' compensation manager, overseeing site activities, interfacing with insurance vendors, providing updates to management stakeholders, and assisting sites with individual claim management and problem resolution.
  • Lead and support corporate risk management activities including analysis and implementation of related initiatives.
  • Participate as a member of cross functional teams - as the subject manner expert - to support business needs relating to environmental health, safety, and sustainability; serve as both an internal consultant and technical resource, being easily approachable by all levels of employees (hourly / salaried).
  • Lead efforts to identify and implement sustainability related projects at individual sites and in alignment with MZB's corporate responsibility position - supporting sales and RFPs as needed.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly updates and reports to all levels of MZB management.
  • Coordinate the central collection of injury and illness data and lead efforts to investigate events, analyze data to identify trends, and develop appropriate corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain liaisons with local, state, and federal agencies (i.e., Fire, Police, DEQ, and OSHA).
  • Establish and implement training programs to ensure compliance with applicable OSHA and company standards, including the delivery of training to plant personnel.
  • Lead efforts and prepare items related to environmental and regulatory reporting, audit, and inspection requests/requirements.
  • Monitor the exterior environment to identify opportunities for the improvement and compliance of MZB-USA EHS programs and to identify possible vendors/service providers.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders such as Finance, Operations, Sales/Marketing, and Human Resources to ensure alignment with other risk management and operational objectives.
  • Coordinate vendor activities for environmental and related monitoring/studies.
  • Execute related program elements such as inspections, audits, drills, OSHA Recordkeeping logs, and monthly/routine training activities.
  • Support site safety committees and participate in industry organizations as required.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities and initiate plans for implementation.
  • Conduct on-site risk assessments and job hazard analysis to identify potential hazards to our employees, as well as listen and address concerns from employees (Frontline and office) relating to their safety.
  • Support, motivate, and promote EHS & Sustainability by building a positive and thriving team environment.
  • Ensure effective safety training and engage employees in the importance of safe working environments - includes reducing hazards and improving safety records.
  • Support other cross-functional activities and projects in both Corporate Engineering and other areas.

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent work experience in CPG manufacturing environment
  • Minimum of seven years with significant responsibilities in an industrial safety field
  • In-depth working knowledge of OSHA safety regulations
  • In-depth experience with incident prevention, management, investigation, and effective corrective action
  • Required knowledge of accepted quality assurance and food safety procedures and guidelines
  • Strong ability to coach, lead, and mentor teams both within and outside of the department (includes frontline and office teams as projects relate to safety and sustainability)
  • Working knowledge of PC based systems; expertise in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to command, consult, gain consensus, and effective delegation required
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing at all levels of the organization
Food Safety Requirements and Responsibilities:

Must comply with all Federal, State, Corporate, Warehouse and Food Safety standards, policies, and guidelines (i.e., HACCP, GMP, SQF, FDA, etc.)

Physical Demands:

Must be willing and able to frequently lift 25 lbs. and able to work in a non climate-controlled environment
