Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today’s tip comes from Meshell Baker, our favorite sales confidence igniter and authentic selling crusader who’s here every Monday to help us kick off the week. Here she is:

Meshell Baker: Today’s tip is part two from 10 tips from top sales quotes, and Quote Number six is, “All great achievements require time” by Maya Angelou. And this is your persistent and patient consistence will always deliver results. No one achieves great success without time. It takes you time to build momentum. It takes time for that momentum, when you do momentum consistently, to become velocity. And that’s what it takes for you to climb the heights of sales success. Any great seller will tell you they have consistent routines and practices they put in place that over time help them to thwart and eliminate the thoughts of failure. In order for you to create great success, your mind must believe and think at all times, for the most part, success, and that doesn’t happen overnight.

Quote number seven, Jim Rohn, “Either you run the day, or the day runs you.” The way I say it is, if you do not master your morning, you will not slay your day. What this basically means is what you do first thing in the morning dictates your day in every single way. How you start your day determines if your day runs you or if you run your day. Having a mindfulness practice every single morning and the consistency of this is how you get into momentum and how that momentum becomes a velocity and how your mindset will see solutions instead of problems and obstacles and all of those things.

Quote number 8, “Growth and Comfort Do Not Coexist” Ginni Rometty. This is so very true. People looking for it to be easy, people looking for a break, people looking for talking in terms of things being unfair. Those do not coexist with growth, and growth is success. Anytime you want to be comfortable, anytime your thinking is unfair, anytime you are feeling uncomfortable, inconvenienced, and uncertainty, this means that you are out of your comfort zone, and you must understand that the magic only happens outside the comfort zone. The only way you can have something greater and better and different is through change, because without the change, everything stays the same. And so for you to want more sales, better sales, greater sales, success, it must be different than where you currently are. And that means it’s going to cause you to be uncomfortable because that is the definition of change. Now, when you plan growth, when you are a consistent and continuous learner, this will help you to thwart all those feelings because you will anticipate change. So remember, your desire to be comfortable does not coexist with incredible success. Success is the antithesis of comfort.

Quote number nine by Walt Disney, “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” So this goes back to one of those quotes last week. People are often scared to begin doing because they’re scared of failure and mistakes. They’re scared of what other people are going to look like. They’re scared it won’t work out. Remember, there is no one who has achieved success without mistakes. The more successful a person is, the more mistakes and failures they have created and experienced in their life. So get busy doing and making mistakes so you can eliminate the physical, emotional, and mental thought that you are making mistakes instead of you are learning how to be better and better and better. Nobody gets it right the first time, so you will not get it right the first time. Most people in life don’t get it right the second, third, fourth, or fifth. The rule of mastery is 10,000 repetitions or 10,000 hours to become a master at something. So when you stop thinking in terms of how many times you failed and start thinking of in terms of, I am not going to quit until I succeed, it’ll be easier for you to stop talking and start doing and moving in the direction of your desired success.

And quote number 10 is by Jill Conrath, “What differentiates sellers today is their ability to bring fresh ideas, innovative, ingenuity, creativity.” And that can only happen when you believe in the possibility of your success. Have a great day selling.
