Pinterest has been known to be a major driver of Traffic for bloggers and e-commerce owners. It was the fastest growing social network in 2014 and even now, years later, Pinterest growth is still going strong. It’s safe to say that the platform isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Here’s How to Get Free Traffic from Pinterest in 2019.

For bloggers, Pinterest can be a fun place to test your marketing skills.

If you’re in the blogging community, or if you have an e-commerce business, you’ve probably heard about how well Pinterest can drive traffic to your web property.

There are bloggers who swear by Pinterest as their main source of traffic. Besides this one, I own 6 blogs. Three of those generate their traffic largely from Pinterest.

Pinterest as a provider of traffic used to be much easier than it is now. As recently as August of 2017, traffic from Pinterest was a main source for those who were using it for that purpose.

Many of the posts that praise Pinterest as being a crazy driver of traffic, were either written ‘back in the day’, when that was true, or they’re written by someone who’s still / now paying Pinterest for that traffic.

Regardless, it takes a TON more work to get traffic from Pinterest in 2019 than it did in 2018. Period.

But that doesn’t mean that getting good traffic from Pinterest is impossible.

It’s entirely possible.

Pre-2018, all you really had to do to generate crazy free traffic from Pinterest, was write your blog post. Then create 2 or 3 pins for that post, and load it to Pinterest, and also to your preferred scheduler. Wait a couple of days (many times even hours), and VOILA! TRAFFIC!

You wouldn’t have to wait long to see actual human beings reading your content.

It was exhilarating!

Fast forward to September 2018, and the Pinterest landscape had completely changed.

Now, you have to do MUCH MORE than simply write your post, create pins and use your preferred scheduler to draw in valuable traffic. (Although there are still ways to super power that scheduler for increased traffic. I’ll get to that in a bit.)

I found that when I used ‘the usual’ methods of generating free traffic with Pinterest, those methods fell flat.

What used to get me 2500+ page views a day were now getting a mere 600+…if even that many!

It was frustrating to see that my usual efforts weren’t getting the same response. But this only meant that I had to figure out how to get that traffic back. I had to figure out what WAS working NOW. I knew that Pinterest was still the vehicle to do it. I just had to figure out how.

How to Get Free Traffic from Pinterest.

Pinterest had made major changes to it’s algorithm in mid 2017. Meaning that many of us who were previously enjoying crazy free traffic, were now struggling with massive decreased numbers. Some, even had their Pinterest accounts randomly shut down!

We were now having to start over, and / or figure out how to increase those traffic numbers again.

Pinterest for Traffic; Is it a crap shoot?

Many “Pinterest experts” will tell you that there are some specific things you should be doing to increase your chances of getting more traffic from Pinterest. But there were times when I wondered if increasing my free traffic with Pinterest was simply a matter of throwing sh*t at a wall, and seeing what sticks.

Turns out, that’s exactly the case.

What works with one person / blogger with Pinterest, doesn’t necessarily work for everyone.

One thing you NEED to remember, is that those bloggers who wrote content with titles like “How I Got Over XXX Thousands of Page Views from Pinterest…” very likely wrote that content BEFORE the algorithm change.

I’d bet money on it.

What I WILL say for certain, is that there definitely are some things you can do, that all but guarantee that you’ll be getting that free traffic from Pinterest sooner, rather than later.

You’ll see traffic, but unless you pin something that ‘explodes’ on the platform, it’s going to take at least a few days to see anything decent.
