5 Tips to Saving Money on Your Monthly Bills

I used to love going to the supermarket. But when the kids were little, I learned to make my trips short and sweet. I made a list and I stuck to it.

My trips to the supermarket made me realize that it was getting harder and harder to stretch that dollar, but with three small children, I had to be creative in how I did it.

I read once that it’s not how much you earn that makes for a comfortable and happy future, but how much you save and keep saving that matters. That’s why it’s really important to save money especially when it comes to your monthly bills.

Some people don’t realize it, but saving on their monthly bills can provide the best money-saving opportunity for them.

Here’s how:

1. Turn off appliances and lights when not in use

The logic is simple. Why would you leave something turned on when nobody’s using it? That’s definitely a bad habit.

If you really want to cut back some on your electricity bill, always turn off the lights and your appliances when not in use.

2. Use energy-saving lights

These days saving on your electricity bill isn’t impossible because you can opt for energy-saving devices like light bulbs.

Using these energy-saving lights such as fluorescent bulbs consumes lower amounts of energy but can still give you great illumination. Honestly, you can barely tell the difference.

3. Always check for leaks

Water bills can create a huge strain on your monthly bills if you don’t check the things that might cause your water bill to increase. You can prevent this by ensuring that every pipe is free from leaks.

Some people don’t realize that even single drops from leaking pipes can mean additional costs on your water bill.

4. Be more tech-savvy

Cut your phone bill in half by simply being tech-savvy.

That is, opt for emails and chat services online instead of using your phone to call long distance to your relatives and friends.

My daughter and I don’t live in the same city, but it doesn’t actually feel so bad, because we use our iPhones to FaceTime probably twice a day. FaceTime uses your home wifi, so there are no ‘extra’ charges.

Gotta love technology

5. Try to insulate your home

Insulating your home is a definite energy-saver/money-saver. You never know how much money you can save on your electric bill when you insulate your home.

Cutting some of your bills can definitely allow you to save more money. You just have to be smart about how you go about doing it.

Peace
