Distracted Driving can be as fatal as drunk driving as it results in drivers driving incompetently and risking the lives of those around them.
Driving under the influence of alcohol or while being impaired to account for drug-related effects has historically recorded the most attention.
These actions resulted in unfortunate fatalities and arrests that dramatically dropped the number of offences over the previous decade.
Fatalities dropped 30% between 2006 & 2015, while arrests fell 40%. However, 27,000 people were still get arrested for DWI in 2015. While the problem has improved gradually, the rise of smartphones has promoted distracted driving in the country.

Apps to help distracted driving
Although mobile phones are a natural hazard for distracted driving, these devices can also be used to fight against the limit. Bellow mentioned apps are free to use and available on Android & iPhone.
The AT&T Drivemode app can silence incoming calls and text messages & automatically responds with a text that confirms you are on the road and should not be distracted at the moment.
The app functions precisely when you are driving over 15 mph. LifeSaver detects driving, restricts phone use, and offers a driver portal for their family and close ones.
The closed ones can confirm the app’s functionality through the portal and receive arrival alerts with personally set-up rewards.
Drivers can choose between what works best for them. Although, the National Safety Council (NSC) has a piece of advice for choosing the right technology.
Add-On Technology
To take action against convicted drunk drivers, an Ignition interlock device (IID) is used. When installed, the vehicle cannot turn on until the driver blows into the device and prove they’re not drunk.
These add-on devices are soon manufactured with advanced technology that can sense whether the driver is under the influence of drugs or alcohol & soon get validated to install in all vehicles.
Driver-assistance technology is already produced in masses to help address distracted driving. Although autonomous emergency braking & lane departure warning devices are utilised with cameras and sensors to lead drivers towards performing safe manoeuvres, if not possible, make it with automatic manoeuvres.
