Ford Motor, the renowned US automobile company, has unveiled a distinctive limited-edition model known as the Mustang Gtd just ahead of the Monterey Car Week in California. Crafted with a focus on racing, this version stands as the fastest Mustang ever produced by the Dearborn-based automaker.

This marks Ford’s initial foray into the realm of prestigious supercars with potent racing attributes. The newly revealed Mustang draws inspiration from the esteemed Mustang GT3 racing vehicle, primed to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans event in 2024.

Amidst the existing Mustang lineup, the Ford Mustang GTD boasts an assertive design. Its significant grille and air intakes, in tandem with a dynamic bumper and hydraulically operated front wings, define its character. The striking aerodynamic bodykit takes center stage, featuring components like the front splitter, air vent-adorned expanded fenders, updated side skirts, an enhanced diffuser, and an imposing spoiler equipped with a DRS system.

In the construction of the Mustang GTD, Ford has heavily integrated carbon fiber into the bodywork to achieve weight reduction. The engineers have incorporated a carbon-ceramic braking system from Brembo, while the 20-inch wheels are forged from aluminum. The tires have a tread width of 325 mm at the front and 345 mm at the rear.

Powering the Mustang GTD is a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, boasting an impressive 800 bhp output as claimed by Ford. This formidable engine is coupled with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. Notably, the Mustang GTD marks the debut of a dry-sump engine oil system in a road-ready Mustang.

The sporty character of the Mustang GTD is mirrored in its interior. The driver and front passenger are treated to track-optimized Recaro seats. Steering wheel-mounted 3D printed titanium paddles enable seamless gear shifts. Intriguingly, the drive mode selector knob and nameplate also utilize titanium sourced from Lockheed Martin F-22 titanium components. While rear seating is absent, space for luggage remains available.

Anticipated as a limited-edition model, the Ford Mustang GTD is expected to hit the domestic market by late 2024 or early 2025.
