Ahead of Merger, Air India and Vistara Collaborate with Interline Agreement

• According to the press release, the agreement between the two airlines encompasses the implementation of Inter Airline Through Check-in (IATCI).

Vistara has announced a bilateral interline partnership with Air India, which is owned by Tata, to provide customers with more flexible travel options. This partnership is expected to benefit travelers who will now have access to a wider range of flight schedules and routes, making it easier for them to plan their trips.

The partnership allows passengers to receive their boarding passes at the beginning of their journey, and they will be able to fly with both airlines using a single ticket.

Vistara said that the agreement will allow customers’ baggage to be checked in through to the final destination.

Vistara’s CEO, Vinod Kannan, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating that it brings together two leading airlines in India to offer greater convenience and connectivity to customers traveling across their joint network. This sentiment was echoed by Campbell Wilson, CEO and MD of Air India, who emphasized that the partnership will provide greater connectivity and convenience to their joint customers traveling within and outside India on both airlines’ expanding route networks.

This partnership is not the first time Vistara and Air India have worked together. The two airlines have previously had interline cooperation for irregular operations (IROPs). This agreement allows the airlines to offer services to customers on each other’s flights in case of operational disruptions.

Moreover, Vistara has interline through check-in agreements with 43 other airlines, including British Airways, Lufthansa, Air Canada, Singapore Airlines, United States Airlines, and Swiss Airlines. This means that Vistara customers can have their baggage checked-in through to their final destination, even if they have connecting flights with other airlines.

This partnership comes after the Tata Group announced its plans to merge Vistara with Air India in November of last year. Currently, Singapore Airlines holds a minority share in Vistara and will own around 25% of the merged Air India after the merger.

Overall, the Vistara-Air India partnership is expected to provide customers with more convenience, flexibility, and connectivity when traveling across India and beyond.
