A Typical Day of a Preschool Teacher

You need to give it to them. They are patience personified, love amplified, with a smile that is contagious, shining bright, making every day look a lot better for all of us.

Managing kids, especially preschoolers is no easy feat.  As parents, we get frustrated real fast. But here are a specific group of people who love kids, love what they do and nothing makes them happier than putting a smile on the little one’s face. Do you know what a typical day looks like for a preschool teacher?

Managing kids, especially preschoolers is no easy feat.  As parents, we get frustrated real fast. But here are a specific group of people who love kids, love what they do and nothing makes them happier than putting a smile on the little one’s face. Do you know what a typical day looks like for a preschool teacher?

The running and the screaming and the fighting and the arguing and the hitting and the pushing and the falling and the whimpering and the crying and the being sad and what not! While working with very young children, communication can be hard to understand and the job gets doubly difficult to rationalise, set rules and make them understand why.

We are blessed to have preschool teachers in our life and we need to thank them for doing what they do diligently, effortlessly and even more so, lovingly.

So when they don’t respond to you (parent) query on chat immediately, or unable to get to the phone because they are busy running around the kids and managing them, please be patient. There’s more beneath what you can see in the surface.

Here’s a peak on how a typical day of a preschool teacher looks like

8:30 AM: Mark their own attendance.
8:35 AM: Ensure the classroom is clean and child friendly. Are there things scattered all over the floor from the previous evening at school? Fix. Any sharp objects that should not be seen around? Pick and dispose safely.
8:45 AM: Keep the day’s activity ready for the kids. Discuss with the principal if necessary

BEEP. Chat messages. Check. Parents informing child is on leave. Respond.

9:00 AM: Welcome kids. Take their bags. Ensure shoes are put aside. Greet them with a cheerful message. Compliment them.
9:15 AM: Mark Child attendance
9:30 AM: Days activity starts. Circle time – An hour long of singing and dancing

BEEP. Chat messages. Distracted. Going back to attend to the class

10:15 AM: Snacks Time. Ensure the kids are eating. Not spilling. Not fighting. Not running around the class going haywire.

Manage kids calmly as some are fighting, disobeying, throwing tantrums, simply excited or just running around like crazy.

Beep. Check messages from parents on plenty of questions. Answer. Distracted again. Back to work.

11:00 AM: Counting and colouring activity day
12:00 Noon: Playtime

Manage kids calmly as some are fighting, disobeying, throwing tantrums, simply excited or just running around like crazy.

Beep. Check messages from parents again. Respond. Distracted. Back to work.

01:00 PM: Lunch Time
02:00 PM: Nap Time
02:30 PM: While they are sleeping, plan for the next day activity. Research. Print. Keep things ready.

Manage kids calmly as some are fighting, disobeying, throwing tantrums, simply excited or just running around like crazy.

3:00 PM: More Playtime
3.30 PM: While the kids play, write in child’s diary about the day and any upcoming activity.

Mark schedules. Create Calendars, Reports and more.

You know! Manage kids calmly as some are fighting, disobeying, throwing tantrums, simply excited or just running around like crazy.

Beep. Check messages from parents again. Respond. Distracted. Back to work.

4:00 PM: Ensure their bags are packed and they are ready to go home.

Meet parents when the child leaves. Answer to their queries and concerns.

5:00 PM: Check on Fee Payment dues. Make a note to send manual reminders the next day.
6:00  PM: Prepare for Weekly Timetable
7:00  PM: Research when they can find time to come up with interesting activities that will help them grow and…

The next time you want to message them on  chat with a lot of queries, think again. Although chat may be an easy way to reach out to preschools, it comes with a lot of cons. Know more about the pros and cons of using chat platform for schools
