Africa’s sought after car brands

Africa has become a budding market from the past few years; it is growing rapidly and has several developing nations. In fact, it is the most sought after continent due to low investment and the great potential big companies see in it. Africans are now opting to have their own cars to move in and around the cities, rather than depending on the still-developing public transport. Car companies are also trying to take advantage of this situation by investing aggressively.

South Africa tops the list with the largest new car market followed by Kenya, Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco and other. There is also a huge market for used cars in Kenya and for used cars in Jamaica. The market for used cars in Mauritius and used cars in Trinidad & Tobago is growing strong and is expected to take over the market.

Toyota


Toyota is the largest car manufacturer in the world. According to the best car selling blog, Toyota is the best selling brand in Africa occupying 15% of the market share. Toyota Hilux is the top-selling car in more than 30 African countries. Corolla which has been the world’s favorite Toyota sedan is also one of the top selling cars.

Hyundai



Another major brand is Hyundai. Hyundai is a South Korean manufacturer who is ruling the roost in Africa with its affordable cars. According to reports, Hyundai is outselling Toyota in four African countries namely Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, and Angola. The i10 series and Verna are the most popular cars from Hyundai.

Renault



Renault is a popular brand in Morocco. Renault has existed for 80 years and has a plant in Tangier, concentrated to export cars to Europe and North Africa. Sandero is the most popular model in Africa owing to its low fuel consumption and affordable price.

Nissan



Nissan was founded by Masujiro Hashimoto, Kenjiro Den, Rokuro Aoyama, Meitaro Tekeuchi and Yoshisuke Aikawa in Japan. It is a popular brand in Africa, with Maxima, Altima and Murano being the most popular.

Growing middle class and wealthy class from the oil-rich African countries are now paying attention to luxury vehicles. Middle-class customers are also willing to buy second-hand luxury cars in order to have a high-end car. Few of the luxury car brands that have Africans yearning are Range Rover, Mercedes Benz, Audi, Porsche, and BMW. Many dealers like Autoworld International are also importing luxury cars and used cars from Japan at a very affordable price, offering at least 20% lesser price than the local market. Africans are actively importing cars from such dealers. We can also expect other brands to become popular in a few years.
