Dr. Jack is a talented Physician, an experienced Medical Visiting Professor, a Dentist, a Businessman, and an Ophthalmologist. Recently, he has worked with emerging biotechnology companies and medical based businesses in South California. As an entrepreneur and Ophthalmologist, Dr. Jack Kavanaugh has been involved with the formation and management of a number of new biotechnology firms.
He is also a member and Chairman of the Calhoun Vision, Inc. He worked with this company to develop the Lens for the cataract problem. The lens is called (LAL) that stands for Light Adjustable Lens, an innovative implant in which a specialized material is used to improve cataract surgery outcomes.
Basically, cataracts occur when the lens of an eye, a normal transparent structure that focuses light on the retina becomes little blur due to trauma, radiation, age, or genetic factors. The reason for visual impairment problems is cataracts. A cataract surgery mainly removes the cloudy lens and it is the only way through which cataracts can be removed. Cataract surgery is counted amongst the most efficient and common surgical operations performed in the U.S
Moreover, to replace the original lens of the eye, Intraocular lenses (IOLs) are used. The traditional IOLs frequent results in suboptimal distant sight, and after surgery, the patient requires reading glasses. Unlike IOLs, Calhoun Vision’s LALs can be adjusted after surgery, and it allows the surgeons to enhance the power of this artificial lens. Those patients who have LASIK present even larger challenges in using traditional IOLs.

City of Hope worked for more than 100 years to develop medical technologies and techniques, and provided education to new physicians. City of Hope is an independent organization which is highly focused on the fight to Diabetes, HIV/AIDS, Cancer, and other major diseases.
