Performance Tracking Through Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality based immersive Training method combines cognitive learning with simulation-based training. With 3-dimensional design and live data fed through the Internet of Things, virtual reality training has successfully mirrored industrial scenarios in a safe work environment. Interaction with the virtual world with virtual reality gears enables better decision making in the physical world as these pieces of training activate the brain’s thinking ability just like in real-life scenarios.

Limitations of traditional learning

From school to the workplace, practice tests and performance tracking through regular exercises help hone live work.  While several white-collar workspaces conduct dedicated training courses and induct employees to live scenarios with mentors, industrial employees face a challenge in training new joiners with machinery. Often, some of the factories cannot simulate the various kinds of within a confined workspace.

As a new employee, going over manuals spanning several hundred pages, without a performance-based learning method, is challenging. Being able to understand jargon and terms without viewing them in real-life can be tough for those who do not possess imaginative learning skills. In an industrial space, one cannot ‘shadow,’ learn from other workers as well.

In factories and industrial workspaces that are functional round the clock performing different kinds of activities, learning is often restricted to one shift, rendering the new joiners with limited access to gain knowledge on what’s happening in the other shifts. And in several kinds of production houses where different assembly lines work on producing various aspects of the product, simulation-based training from all these spots will be impossible for a new joiner. However, a trainee is expected to possess complete knowledge of all aspects of production before they can begin their work.

Some of the equipment or machinery required to complete the training are costly, highly inaccessible without protective gear, and often pose life-threatening risks.

Virtual Reality-based training and performance tracking enable a monitored learning environment for all new joiners.

Complete physical engagement: One of the several advantages of performance tracking training with virtual reality is the use of a complete physical body method of learning. This increases the retention rate of what’s learned and increases the participant’s engagement in the training.

Cognitive learning: As the simulation-based method of teaching and training matches the physical world accurately, the brain’s perceptive learning is activated. This improves the understanding and memory of the tasks performed.

Learning as per one’s pace: Unlike physical training, virtual reality-based training can occur multiple times and can be repeated in certain parts to improve the understanding. This also enables training for large and small groups as per convenience. Staff time spent on training is also saved as several virtual reality-based pieces of training are self-taught.

Real-time feedback: It is easy to track a candidate’s performance and understanding of the task in real-time. Instant feedback and scenario-based demonstration showcase the misses and hits, thereby enabling users to understand the various outcomes at all times.

Visual, experiential, and engaging: Since most of the training modules are 3D based, they are interactive and provide experiential learning. There’s the use of depth, audio, and interaction to captivate the user’s attention. The trainer is also able to observe the movements and track the user’s interaction with the learning module, enabling agile improvements to the next batch of learners.
