In recent years, the value of vein Graphite has been in an all-time-high mainly for a couple of reasons. The area with the greatest land deposit of vein graphite is no other than Sri Lanka. The country is dubbed as the holder of the purest form of graphite on the planet.

Ever since graphite has served a great deal for humans. It was and is still used as the main ingredient in creating pencils, steel making, and tennis racquets. With the rising advancement in today’s technology, experts say graphite has many more uses than what everyone used to think.

Graphite History in Sri Lanka

For over two centuries, the graphite mining in Sri Lanka has made a great improvement since it began. What made the graphite in Sri Lanka so special?

Theirs is far from your usual ones. Sri Lanka is home to what is known to be the highest-quality called vein graphite. It is largely in demand today due to it being the key ingredient in making rechargeable ion batteries. In Sri Lanka, there is approximately  35,000 metric tons of natural graphite being exported, and the number never stop to grow.

Vein graphite is basically the number one reason why today’s gadgets and devices are possible to carry around. There is also an all-time high in demand when it comes to rechargeable batteries for electric-powered vehicles. At this point, the demands would only seem to go up especially with the increasing popularity of rechargeable vehicles.

Ceylon Graphite Corp.

The company has realized the potential of Sri Lanka’s lump vein graphite and has since initiated their business of exploring and developing them.

Ceylon Graphite Corp. is a public company currently listed on the TSX Venture Exchange in Canada.

According to Sasha Jacob, the main shareholder of Ceylon Graphite Corp., the Government of Sri Lanka has granted Ceylon Graphite Corp exploration rights in a land package over 100 km of exploration grids. “These grids cover all relevant areas that had historical lump vein graphite production during the 1900s to 1930s representing the majority of the government’s known vein graphite occurrence in Sri Lanka. Ceylon Graphite  lump vein graphite is unique and has higher quality than normal flake graphite, and currently accounts for less than 1 percent of the world graphite production” Mr. Jacob added in an interview by the Business Times.

Furthermore, Sasha Jacob claimed that the electric vehicle industry is bound to grow annually. By the end of 2020, a roughly 3 to 6 million of electric-powered vehicles will be manufactured. A single car requires 40 pounds of graphite for the battery system in order to function. According to Mr. Jacob, the lithium-ion battery is also being used for renewal power storage facility. It is expected that the home storage market will be as high as the car market.
