  • The GIS database being developed by individual departments or their allied offices are not based on standard formats/models. Thus such databases cannot be integrated in a Single Geo-spatial database.
  • The satellite images not centrally procured, not available in a common Spatial referencing scheme and not stored on a single server on sharing basis.
  • Owing to above, there is a need to create a standard procedure for acquisition, processing, and dissemination of Geo-spatial database, based on the National/ International standards (ISO) for Geo-spatial database.

  • Maharashtra State Remote Sensing Application Centre (MRSAC)

  • Acquisition of High resolution Stereo satellite data for entire state
  • Creation of primary and secondary DGPS network
  • Photogrammetry services for creation of Ortho-photos
  • Creation of Base layers
  • Superimposition of ancillary layers as per requirement of state departments
  • Application development
  • Updating of satellite imagery for 3 years for change detection analysis

  • It leads to creation of Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) for the Maharashtra state.
  • It will enable the State Government to create a base data on which inter departmental applications can be built.
  • It will ensure to avoid data duplication, cost duplication and data mismatch etc.
  • Maintaining of the common database is easier and efficient than the fragmented data.
  • The single and integrated base data acts as a Decision Support System for the Government.
