Main Infrastructure Annual Spring Maintenance on Don Valley Parkway!

City of Toronto: Main Infrastructure was involved on the Scheduled spring maintenance work on the Don Valley Parkway last weekend (weekend of April 13 to 16).

Main Infrastructure has provided the best services to make the Don Valley Parkway ready for you.

Here are all about the Specific activities we undertaken during the closure.

Following the recent period of freeze the whole process of maintenance included:

1. Resurfacing of the roadway, including some shoulder paving work

This included the following steps –

• Removal of the old surface by using appropriate machines.
• Application of asphalt coating to milled surface for binding the new surface to be applied. This will help to make the new surface easy to attach with the milled one.
• Resurfacing of the roadway by paving machines. This will make the roadway durability and excellent appearance.
• Finishing of the roadway to make it ready for daily traffic. This will give the roadway a perfect look and smoothness.

2. Patching asphalt surfaces, including crack sealing

Under this section we performed –

• Removal of the old surface of the cracking to make it free from possible damages.
• Sealing of cracking by asphalt crack sealers. This will provide excellent strength to the cracked area.
• Patching of the asphalt surfaces using spray patching. This is the best method of patching asphalt surfaces and will give them longer durability.
• Making the surface dry to make it hard. This will be the final step which will provide the surface great strength to bear extensive traffic loads.

3. Pothole Repairs

This section was done by –

• Cleaning of the area to be repaired.
• Injection of asphalt into the potholes up to 2 inches base. It will provide huge strength to the pothole base.
• Reapplication of the asphalt after compaction to fill the potholes fully. This process will prevent the possible damages of the potholes due to traffic loading.
• Letting the asphalt dry to make the surface hard. It is an important step as it will provide extensive hardness to the surface.
