Akshaya Patra has both centralised kitchens and decentralised kitchens to cater to urban/semi-urban areas and rural areas respectively. Centralised kitchens are huge cooking units with the capacity tocook up to 1 lakh meals per day whereas decentralised kitchens are smaller units operated by women self-help groups under the supervision of Akshaya Patra’s quality and process supervisors.
Along with kitchens, this mid-day meal NGO in India also has its own self-managed logistics to deliver cooked meals to schools. Akshaya Patra’s fleet of food delivery vehicles are customised to retain freshness and temperature of the cooked meals and avoid spillage of food. The vehicles are GPS-enabled to ensure safety, punctuality, and orderliness in delivering mid-day meals to children.
