The BSE Sensex fell by 250 points in early session on Thursday due to losses in energy, banking, finance, auto, oil & gas, power and industrial stocks amid weak Asian cues.
Equity benchmarks extended their losses in the morning session, with the Sensex falling over 250 points, while the Nifty traded below 10,300 marks.
As on 11:32 AM, the BSE Sensex was down 273 points at 33,330 and the NSE Nifty slipped 78 points to 10,283.
The selling pressure seen in mid-cap and small-cap shares. The BSE MidCap Index fell 0.21% and the BSE MidCap Index declined 0.01%.
Barring realty and telecom, all other BSE sectoral indices were trading in the negative zone. Among them, energy fell 1.04%, followed by banking 0.90%, finance 0.70% and auto 0.51%, while realty index was up 0.03%.
Bosch, GAIL, Indiabulls Housing Finance, Bajaj Auto and Bharti Infratel gained the most on Nifty50.
M&M, Reliance Industries, Axis Bank, State Bank of India and Kotak Mahindra Bank were the top losers.
India VIX slipped by 0.45% at 13.01 level.
Out of 1,981 stocks traded on the NSE, 670 advanced, 927 declined, and 384 remained unchanged today.
A total of 58 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while nine stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
