Can you hear a different opinion? Do you respect differing views?

Can you hear a different opinion? Do you respect differing views? The Brand Messaging Podcast blog supplement for brand messaging strategist Loren Weisman’s Wait What Really OK Podcast Episode 13, “How do you run a political campaign on social media effectively?”

Can you hear a different opinion? Do you respect differing views?

Have you ever noticed how many people can take an opinion and shift it to a fact, even when it is still, just an opinion?

Have you noticed how some people are so locked in to their beliefs, even if they can not prove them? Or if they just choose to believe some one else that said them but did not prove them either?

In your marketing, messaging, networking and in your professional communication as a whole, work to be able to hear different opinions while not claiming your opinions as facts if they aren’t.

Can you hear a different opinion? Do you respect differing views?

People come from different places, they have different tastes, different experiences and different views. Why be so overly aggressive as to force your opinion on another? At the same time, hearing a view different than yours could open you up to a different set of points and ideas.

A differing opinion?

Try listening without preparing a response.

Try listening without judging.

Give the same respect you would like to have for your opinion and give it to someone else, even if it is different.

You might learn something new or it might reinforce your view.

Either way, try a listening tactic that can help highlight your consideration, communication and professionalism with others… whether they are on the same page or not.
