Packaging Tips for Ecommerce Businesses

Tags: packaging

The world of ecommerce is growing at an astronomical rate due to the high demand from customers for easy accessible goods delivered to their door!

Also with the advances in technology and ease to set up online stores and sell through online marketplaces has seen many small businesses move into this area.

Packaging and shipping costs can account for a major part of a businesses expenditure and by making a few changes to your Packaging can dramatically reduce your costs.

Here are a few tips on packaging for ecommerce businesses:

  • Ensure you know your carriers weight & dimensions policies and where possible try to ensure that you meet the smallest possible option for your product. This can be done in a number of ways –

o   Weight restrictions – look at the amount and types of packaging you are using and see if any of these can be substituted for something more lightweight. This could mean changing from corrugated paper to bubble wrap which will give the same protection but will weigh a lot less.

o   Size restrictions – you should make your packaging as streamlined as possible. This means that you try and use the correct size outer cartons by either buying to match your product or cutting down to size. You need to consider the correct amount of protective packaging that your product needs, as there is no point in saving on shipping and packaging if your products start to get damaged during transit

  • Branding on packaging can help you to stand out and give a better customer experience.

o   Branded packaging can increase customer loyalty and sales through marketing your product during the transit process.

o   If you are a small business and don’t want to invest in bespoke packaging just yet, another great way to brand packaging for a minimum cost would be to use branded tape or labels on your boxes that can give the same impression but at a fraction of the cost.
