Protective packaging for delicate items

Shipping a very delicate item can be daunting due to the ease that these items can be damaged and the distance through the courier system that it has to travel to arrive at its destination.

Choosing the correct type of Protective Packaging is key in ensuring confidence in shipping these types of items to get them to the destination in the perfect condition

  • Choosing the correct protective packaging

This all depends on the type of item but the key is to ensure that the item is completely encased in the protective product, bubble wrap and foam wrap are probably the easiest and most cost effective product to do this. This type of packaging doesn’t move so will ensure the item is protected though the whole shipping process, compared to loose fill which can be displaced moving the product to the bottom of the box during transit leaving it unprotected.

  • Using the correct amount of protective packaging

You could use the correct type of protective packaging but if you don’t use enough then this can also leave the product open to damage. Ensuring that the item is sufficiently wrapped and has enough protective packaging between the product and the outer packaging acts like a barrier to any impacts during transit. Using double walled boxes can also increase the impact the packaging can take without damaging the items inside, depending on the value and shipping method of your product this is also a cost effect way of adding extra protection.

  • Labelling the outer packaging correctly

By highlighting that the package and contents is fragile, through fragile tapes and labels, can help to ensure that the package is handled with more care during the shipping process. This also shows the customer that you have taken every opportunity to protect the product to ensure it reaches them in the ultimate condition.
