4 Plumbing Tips to Consider For Wet Weather

Rains bring a lot of appeasement and make the environment around us pleasant. But as there is a flip side to everything, Wet Weather also has a second side which may become ugly. Heavy rains cause excessive water and it can be a real big problem if doesn’t get drained out at the right time. Water can get logged anywhere- in the streets or roads, and the worst would be at home. It could take long hours and cost a fortune to fix the problems created by wet weather. Here are a few tips we have enlisted to handle the wet weather problems:

1. Avoid Back-drafting - back-drafting in the drain is a common problem today. It is generally caused by the negative inside pressure in the buildings. Although, it gets escalated by the rain water clogging. If the rain water caused by wet weather clogs your drain the situation becomes severe making the hazardous gases (like methane) spread through the drain opening in your bathrooms. Methane is a flammable gas and the gas spreading could lead to an explosion. To avoid back drafting you need to have an efficient ventilation in the bathrooms and toilets.

2. Flooding - Flooding is another very common issue caused during wet weather and people spend thousands of dollar in drying up their basements. The worst thing that could happen is current leakage in the waterlogged basement that could lead to a mishap. The best way to save from all that hassle is to install a sump pump in the basement right before the rains hit. A sump pump would siphon out the water from the basement saving you from the year’s biggest inconvenience. Also, have a backup pump as the sump pump might malfunction in waterlogged conditions.

3. Check the gutters and downspouts - the gutters and downspouts could cause a major havoc in rains if kept unchecked. The gutters get clogged by the dried leaves, sediments and other debris which could choke up the downspouts causing another flood-like situation in your garden or backyard. Clear the gutters and be worry free.

4. Plumbing inspections - Nothing could be better than a prevention. Get plumbing inspections done a couple of times in a year, especially before the wet weather hits. This would save you from the future fuss caused due to rains. To book a plumbing inspection you can visit the company website of The Plumbing and Gas Guys.
