The Penitas restaurant joins 18 other Chick-fil-A restaurants serving the wider Rio Grande Valley market.

Locally Owned and Operated

As full-time, hands-on leaders in their restaurants and communities, Chick-fil-A Owner-Operators proudly reside in the communities in which they serve.

In Penitas, Gonzalez will be responsible for all day-to-day activities of the business, including employing approximately 90 full- and part-time Team Members, serving guests and cultivating relationships with local organizations and businesses.

A native of Rio Grande City, Gonzalez fell in love with Chick-fil-A at an early age. He was an educator for 18 years before starting his career at Chick-fil-A. Fittingly, his new restaurant is located just few hundred yards from John F. Kennedy Elementary School, where Gonzalez began his teaching career in 1999.

After embarking on the process to become a local Owner-Operator, he opened Chick-fil-A Palmhurst in 2017, which he will continue to operate. The opportunity to increase moments of care for the Rio Grande Valley community was one close to Gonzalez’s heart.

“Being a part of Chick-fil-A represents living out my life’s calling: being a part of a successful business and caring for people while doing it,” Gonzalez said. “My Team Members and I want Chick-fil-A Penitas to be a place of care and hospitality, and we cannot wait to begin serving the community.”

His goal for the restaurant? “To change the lives of my Team Members, leaders and guests,” he said.

Caring for the Penitas Community

In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A, Inc. will donate $25,000 to Feeding America in honor of the new restaurant. These funds will be distributed to partners in the greater Rio Grande Valley area to aid in the fight against hunger.

In addition, Chick-fil-A Penitas is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the Penitas area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.

Gonzalez’s restaurant will plan to participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® program, an initiative that redirects surplus Food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need. To date, more than 20 million meals have been served nationwide from Chick-fil-A Shared Table donations.

Chick-fil-A, Inc. recently released its first cookbook to raise awareness of food insecurity and the importance of reducing food waste. Entitled “Extra Helpings,” the cookbook is inspired by the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® program and features recipes from local nonprofit partners which repurpose Chick-fil-A® restaurant food donations to help feed their communities across the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada. Free to view online, the digital cookbook shares ideas for at-home cooks to reduce food waste by repurposing extra food in their own kitchens – similar to how local nonprofits transform surplus food donated from local Chick-fil-A restaurants.”

Team Member Investment

Chick-fil-A Operators are committed to hiring, developing and retaining top talent and providing a positive work environment for people of all ages and backgrounds. Team Members have opportunities for flexible work hours and leadership growth, competitive pay and benefits, hands-on training and mentoring and the chance to apply for scholarships to support their continuing education.

Delicious Food; Outstanding Customer Service

Chick-fil-A is known for serving customers great-tasting food made with high-quality ingredients, including the original Chick-fil-A® Chicken Sandwich. Made with a real, whole, boneless breast of chicken with no added fillers, the breaded chicken is pressure cooked in fully-refined peanut oil. Chick-fil-A was one of the first in the industry to eliminate chicken raised with antibiotics to ensure guests have an option for high-quality food on the go.

To complement the great-tasting chicken, fresh produce is delivered to Chick-fil-A restaurants up to six times a week for the best quality and flavor. The fresh ingredients are raised and grown by farmers who share the company’s elevated quality and safety standards, so guests feel good about their meal.
