McAllen Heritage Center Featuring Mexican Cinema Poster Exhibit, Through Nov. 30th

The gorgeous, framed posters exhibit will run through November 30, 2023, during museum hours of operation.   We will host a festive open house reception on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 5 pm to 7:30 pm, including an informative presentation by Mr. Peralta.

This exhibit brings together the best and most significant film posters on the theme of the charro in Mexican filmography. The exhibition allows us to see the historical evolution of this national emblem by presenting original posters from the first decade of the industrial emergence of the 1930s, the consolidation of the Golden Age of the 1940s and 1950s, and the decline of the 1960s and 1970s. and 80s.

Stars such as Tito Guizar, Jorge Negrete, Raul de Anda, Pedro Infante, Luis Aguilar, Pedro Armendariz, Miguel Aceves Mejia, Emilio El Indio Fernandez, Rodolfo de Anda, Antonio Aguilar, Javier Solis, Vicente Fernandez and Pedrito Fernandez, among others, represented the role of charro in unforgettable films such as “Alla en elRancho Grande” (1936), “El Fanfarron” (1938), “El Charro Negro” (1940), “Soy Charro de Rancho Grande” (1947), “Juan Charrasqueado” ” (1947), “Charro a la Fuerza” (1948), “El Charro y la Dama”, “Tu y las Nubes” (1955), “La Cucaracha” (1958), “El Hijo del Charro Negro” (1962) ), “Juan Colorado” (1965), “Juan Pistolas” (1966), “Juan Charrasqueado and Gabino Barrera: Their True History” (1981) and “Alla en la Plaza Garibaldi” (1982).
