City of Mission Hosts Alliance of South Texas Cities Meeting

MISSION, Texas – The City of Mission proudly hosted the third Alliance of South Texas Cities meeting on July 25, 2023. This strategic partnership encompasses various mayors from the Rio Grande Valley and the City of San Antonio. The primary objective of this alliance is to foster unity and collaboration throughout the expansive South Texas region, connecting communities from the Rio Grande Valley to San Antonio.

Mission Mayor Norie Garza welcomed San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg, Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza, Weslaco Mayor David Suarez, and Harlingen Mayor Norma Sepulveda to the Center for Education and Economic Development (CEED). The meeting served as a platform for an insightful and comprehensive discussion. 

“The Alliance of South Texas Cities marks a significant milestone for our region. True strength lies in unity, and as we invest in the people of South Texas and foster collaboration between communities, we lay a solid foundation for success,” stated Mission Mayor Norie Gonzalez Garza. 

At the heart of the meeting was the theme of economic development, prompting an incredible exchange of ideas and visionary plans for the region’s future. Teclo Garcia, CEO of the Mission EDC, praised the mayors for fostering an environment of open and productive dialogue. He said, “I credit all the mayors for holding productive meetings where we can have honest, collaborative dialogue not only about the challenges we 

face as a region but finding solutions to our problems. We’re honored to host and participate in these groundbreaking endeavors that will benefit South Texas and the entire state.” 

There were other twenty distinguished guests present, including Mission City Manager Randy Perez, Texas Transportation Commissioner Alex Meade, UTRGV Associate Vice President for Workforce & Economic Development Ron Garza, RGV Partnership President and CEO Daniel Silva, as well as representatives from the Greater San Antonio Regional Economic Partnership, AT&T, and Texas Regional Bank among others. The meeting truly represented a dynamic convergence of expertise and experience. 

The City of Mission reaffirms its commitment to collaboration, investing in the region’s people. As the South Texas Alliance of Cities continues its drive for progress and development, a world of exciting opportunities lies ahead.
