The City of Mcallen is excited to announce the upcoming Mxlan Economic Summit, scheduled to take place at the McAllen Convention Center on Friday, July 28, 2023. This landmark event aims to highlight the South Texas region’s unique geographical position and explore the significant impact it has on international commerce.

Keynote speakers for the summit will include Duncan Wood, an esteemed expert on Texas-U.S.-Mexico relations, alongside prominent industry experts, banking professionals, real estate moguls, and successful entrepreneurs. The MXLAN Economic Summit will foster insightful discussions about how the economic activities within McAllen resonate globally, making it a crucial center for international commerce.

The South Texas region possesses a geographical advantage that links the United States and Mexico, making it a critical hub for cross-border trade and investments. McAllen, situated at the heart of this dynamic region, plays a pivotal role in facilitating trade and investment flows between the two nations. Understanding the potential impact of this unique positioning is vital to capitalize on emerging opportunities and tackle any challenges that may arise.

The summit will delve into various topics, including:

1. Texas-U.S.-Mexico Relations: Duncan Wood’s keynote address will shed light on the current state of relations between Texas, the United States, and Mexico and highlight the potential for future growth and collaboration.

2. Bank President’s Panel: “Bridging Borders. Connecting Markets”: A discussion on economic connectivity challenges and opportunities between U.S. and Mexico markets. Discussion will touch on near shoring, potential of medical industry in the Rio Grande Valley, need for regional cooperation, and big infrastructure projects.  

3. International Entrepreneurs Panel: “Prosperity, Progress, and Economic Development the Latino Way: Successful entrepreneurs will share their stories of navigating the business landscape in the United States and discuss the potential for innovation-driven growth.

4. The State of Real Estate in the Rio Grande Valley: Real estate and industry experts will explore the exciting real estate industry and future plans in McAllen and surrounding area. The Greater McAllen Association of Realtors will be announcing an exciting addition to their MLS, or property listing, system.  

 5. Addressing Labor Shortages Through International Partnerships:  The University of Texas-RGV will discuss their Global Hub or Foreign Investor Soft Landing program. Labor experts will discuss root causes of labor shortages and discuss solutions through work visas.
