Hosted annually, the Women In Leadership Luncheon showcases a powerful group of female leaders highlighting the evolving role of women professionals and small business owners. The objective is to motivate women of all ages and backgrounds to aspire to leadership positions and contribute to the development of the community.
This year, the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the first annual ATHENA Award in Brownsville, Texas. Nominees will be recognized at the Women In Leadership Luncheon on Tuesday, May 23rd, at the Brownsville Events Center.

The Brownsville Chamber of Commerce (BCOC) is pleased to announce the nominees for the inauguralATHENAAwardceremonyinBrownsville,Texas.Therecipientsineachcategorywillbe presented at the chamberʼs Women In Leadership Luncheon on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at the Brownsville Events Center to those exceptional individuals who have achieved excellence in their business or profession, have served the community in a meaningful way and have assisted women in their attainment of professional goals and leadership skills.
The ATHENA Award was first presented in 1982 in Lansing, Michigan and has grown to include presentations to more than 5,000 individuals in hundreds of cities in the United States as well as in Canada, China, Russia and the United Kingdom. The award takes the form of a hand-cast bronze sculpture symbolizing the strength, courage and wisdom of the recipient.
The Brownsville Chamber of Commerce believes in the values underlying ATHENA Internationalʼs philosophy of incorporating the talent and expertise of women into the leadership of our businesses, our communities and our government. The spirit of the ATHENA Award® Program is captured in a quotation from Plato, “What is honored in a country will be cultivated there.” By honoring exceptional leaders, others will be encouraged to excel.
