Seeking Volunteers for Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, April 19-23

EDINBURG, Texas – The City of Edinburg, in collaboration with UTRGV, will host the 375-foot-long replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, also known as The Wall That Heals, on April 19-23, 2023. The Wall honors the more than 3 million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War and bears the names of the 58,281 brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice, including 15 from Edinburg as well as another 137 Fallen Heroes from Brooks, Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy Counties.

The Wall That Heals will arrive on Tuesday, April 18, at the South Texas International Airport at Edinburg and will then be escorted by a motorcycle Honor Escort through Edinburg, south on Closner Blvd. to the Ebony Hills Golf Course, where it will be available for viewing beginning April 19 at 2 p.m. thru Sunday, April 23.

The honor escort will leave the airport at 11:30 a.m. and arrive at the golf course at noon. The City of Edinburg is asking the community to line up along Closner to welcome the Vietnam Veterans Memorial as it arrives. The City of Edinburg and UTRGV are also asking for community and veteran volunteers to help set up the wall, assist at the information desk, serve as assistants to help find the names on the Wall, as well as assisting at the education center. Volunteers will need to attend a training on April 19 at 6 p.m. To volunteer, please sign up online at www.cityofedinburg.com/wallthatheals or visit the Dustin M. Sekula Memorial Library at 1906 S. Closner Blvd. to sign up in person. The Wall will be open 24 hours a day, so volunteers can select from several shift options.
