PHARR, Texas – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) Middle School will soon receive free additional musical instruments thanks to a grant awarded by the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, a national organization supporting music education in schools.
The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation aims to keep music alive in schools by providing vital support services to school districts, and new musical instruments to underfunded music programs nationwide, giving under-represented youth access to the many benefits of music education, leading them to success in school, and inspiring creativity and expression through playing music.
“I’d like to start off by saying thank you to the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation for awarding the LBJ Orchestra Program with this prestigious award, its impact will resound deeply with our students,” said LBJ Middle School Orchestra Director Gabriel Preusse. “A special thank you goes out to my amazing students, without them none of this would be possible.”
As part of the grant, the school will receive brand-new equipment including six violins, six violas, two cellos, and one string bass with a total retail value of $15,871.
“We are extremely grateful to have one of our orchestra programs receive this generous grant,” said PSJA Fine Arts Director Jon Taylor. “This grant showcases our district’s commitment and dedication to providing high-quality fine arts experiences for our students.”
