CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –  The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s golf team fell 5-2 to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders in a match play event on Saturday at Lozano Golf Club.

The Islanders jumped out to a 2-0 lead after picking up wins in matches 1 and 2 while the Vaqueros got on the board in match 3 with a half point from sophomoreand Edinburg High alum Madi Ozuna as she finished her match against Lucy Martinez all square. 

Corpus Christi added another point with a win in match 4 to push their lead 3.5-to-.5 before sophomore Maria Jose Ramirez gave UTRGV a full point with a 3 & 2 win over Reagan Gray. After going all square through 10 holes, Ramirez won back-to-back holes on holes 11 and 12 before adding to her lead on the 14^th hole to put the match away. 

Junior Samantha Garza gave the Vaqueros another half point as she finished her match with Elsa Torvall all square to make It 4 to 2 before the Islander got the final point in match 7.

The Vaqueros’ match play event with the Islanders closes out their fall season.
