EDINBURG, Texas — The Museum of South Texas History presents ¡Cascarón!, an Easter celebration, Saturday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mariachi performances by Barrientes Middle School Mariachi Azteca Rojo and South Middle School Mariachi Sur, directed by Juan Amaro, will kick off the event at 11 a.m.

The museum’s annual event will also include the region’s tradition of decorating “cascarones,” or painting eggshells filled with confetti. Blank and pre-painted cascarones will be available for purchase, while supplies last. Guests can choose to paint a dozen for $2 or purchase a pre-painted dozen for $3. There will also be a free bunny craft for families and other activities to enjoy.

An Easter egg hunt is scheduled outside on the museum’s grassy Gran Paseo at 1 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring their own baskets.

In need of Easter basket items? The Vendor Market will feature small local businesses that will sell handmade crafts, jewelry and much more. The Museum Store also features an array of history and heritage publications from local and international authors and souvenirs.

Admission to ¡Cascaron! is free from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and includes the chance for a self-guided tour of the signature Rio Grande Legacy exhibition.
