MISSION, TX – Street tacos, chili cheese dogs and pizza are just a few of the additional options Mission Cisd middle and high school students now have for lunch with the debut of the district’s state-of-the-art Food Trucks. 

With the goal of encouraging students to eat outside, students can now enjoy the fresh air while taking their pick of one of the several items on the Food Truck menu. 

“This is just one way Mission CISD continues to innovate to offer our students the best appetizing nutritional options at our campuses,” said Mission CISD Superintendent Dr. Carol G. Perez. “We have been hearing positive feedback from our students and staff and are looking forward to seeing how our amazing Child Nutrition Department continues to develop our Food Truck program.”

The Food Truck meals are free for students as part of the Child Nutrition Program’s community eligibility provisions that allow all Mission CISD students to receive their meals at no charge. 

“I think it’s wonderful that our district is doing this,” said CNP Director Maria Woodrum. “We have been getting a lot of calls from different school districts interested in doing this as well, so we’re kind of the first to do something like this.”

The seven new food trucks are located at Mission Collegiate High School, Mission High School, Veterans Memorial High School, Alton Memorial Jr. High, Kenneth White Jr. High, Mission Jr. High and Rafael Cantu Jr. High. 

“I would definitely recommend other students get their meals from the food trucks because they have more than just what they’re serving in the cafeteria,” said Kaydence Espinoza, a 6th grade student at Alton Memorial Jr. High. “Plus, you get to sit outside, enjoy the fresh air and have fun with your friends out here so it’s pretty cool.”
