The Economic Development Corporation of Weslaco announces business names of grant/loan recipients of the COVID-19 Weslaco Small Business Recovery Assistance Loan/Grant Program intended to provide assistance to Weslaco-based businesses suffering from financial impacts related to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

Signing ceremonies will be held throughout the days of May 27 and 28, 2020, in the lobby of the Weslaco Business & Event Center at 275 S. Kansas Ave. Weslaco, Texas.  Masks and social distancing will be enforced and recipients being awarded grant/loans will be asked to make an appointment in advance.

The loan/grant is made available to all non-home-based, retail and small businesses with less than 5 employees located in the City of Weslaco, with priority given to retail businesses that have frequent and/or close contact with customers and deemed “non-essential” by the city, county, and state of Texas.

Grant/Loan recipients: New Dimension Spa & Salon, Busy Bristles Art Studio, Peckers Scratch Kitchen, X Spect Fitness, Eal’s Nails & Spa, Old School Power House Gym, Ultimate Do Spa & Salon, Weslaco Antique Mall, The Beauty Bar ( Hair Salon), All American Trucking, Maribel’s His & Hers Beauty Salon, Erico Hair Salon, Weslaco’s Daily Grind, Rita’s Dance Studio, LLC, Massage By Sherry, LLC, Valley Trophies, LLC, Alegro’s Flower Shop, Coastal Americana, Pro Dental Lab, Health Club 722, Mimi’s Attic, Boots N Jeans Inc, Something Special, Posh Studio LLC, Stinnett Jeweler, Instasigns, Tea with Friends, Valley All-Stars, Ice Depot, Minga’s Legacy Barber Shop, 325 Massage Studio, Story Book Garden, Boocha Boocha for Life, Lionel’s Western Wear, Express Communications, Khloes Kouture Boutique, and Dance Time LLC.

$200,000 had been set aside by the EDC of Weslaco to fund approximately 40 small businesses a maximum of $5,000 each.  37 companies qualified.

“These monies will go a long way for struggling businesses in Weslaco that depend on sales for their services,” says EDC Board Member Patrick Gonzalez, “It’s what puts food on their tables for their families.”

“Many of these small businesses operate on tight budgets,” says Sonja De La Fuentes, EDC Board Member, “They pay the next month’s bills with this month’s sales, so the Recovery Assistance Program came at just the right time.”

“We are honored to support our local small businesses in Weslaco,” said Stephen Charlton, EDC Board Treasurer, “but we have learned some very important lessons and how social distancing, washing our hands and wearing masks can affect our economy in a very positive way, so following these rules helps us keep businesses open and our economy moving.”
