The Consulate of Mexico in McAllen is happy to announce Dr. Maria Cristina Rosas, Professor of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM, National Autonomous University of Mexico) and expert on NAFTA who will be discussing the effects and ratification on the USMCA in the Rio Grande Valley region.

Learning and understanding what the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement stands for and how it resonates in our community are imperative, this is why the Consulate of Mexico in McAllen is hosting two debriefing sessions on this topic. 

The first one will take place in the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley – Edinburg Campus on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, from 9 AM – 12 PM at the UTRGV ITT2 Building. There, people from the community and academic members will be discussing the effects of the new USMCA, in sectors of culture, education, labor, and community.

The second event will take place at the McAllen Convention Center, on Thursday, May 23rd, 2019, from 4 PM – 7 PM. At this session, workers and directors of maquilas and industrial sector, as well as commercial trade, will be present. 

The USMCA debriefing with Dr. Maria Cristina will be complemented with the participation of Jorge Torres, an expert on commercial trade and President of Interlink, both will explain their points of view to the audience on the ratification of the USMCA.

Dr. Maria Cristina Rosas has worked as a full-time career professor for the UNAM for 30 years; she is also a member of the National System of Researchers. She is a member of the Panel of Experts of the North American Environmental Commission of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). And she will be also presenting her book “El Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte 2.0”, as coauthor and researcher of this wonderful work.
