EDINBURG – Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez held a Purple Heart County sign installation ceremony on Thursday, April 25 at 10 a.m. in the Commissioners Courtroom in honor of all county veterans who have been awarded the Purple Heart.

Hidalgo County was designated a Purple Heart County on August 28, 2018, and was presented with a street sign at Commissioners Court by Jon Lunkwicz, State Commander, Department of Texas, Military Order of the Purple Heart, and other representatives.

Of 254 counties in Texas, 75 have received the Purple Heart County designation.

The sign was installed on the corner of Closner Blvd. and Mahl St. on the County Courthouse Annex III property this week in preparation for the ceremony.
