Harlingen, Texas – The U.S. Small Business Administration kicks off National Veterans Small Business Week (NVSBW), Monday, November 5th, highlighting the different facets of the veteran business community.

“National Veterans Small Business Week is another opportunity for us to not only highlight the success of our nation’s 2.5 million veteran-owned businesses, but to also communicate the areas where we can support their entrepreneurial spirit,” said Angela R. Burton, district director, and U.S. Army Veteran. “Entrepreneurship is not a solo mission. I’m proud to be a part of an agency and network that serves the needs of our veteran and military business owners.”

There are events occurring throughout the nation during NVSBW, hosted by SBA district offices, resource partners, and other local community organizations. This year’s theme, “Our #VetBiz Community”, showcases the various facets of the veteran business community, ranging from the perspective or existing veteran and military business owner to the educational institution providing entrepreneurial training.

“The Lower Rio Grande Valley and Corpus Christi Branch Offices have planned several events for NVSBW to include lender panels, funding workshops, resource fairs, and Boots to Business Reboot trainings,” stated Burton.  “Events will be held in small towns as well as metropolitan areas, please check our district website for dates and times.”  Many events are in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and U.S. Department of Agriculture bringing a variety of veteran resources together.

The SBA’s Lower Rio Grande Valley District Office encourages veterans, service members, National Guard, and Reserve members, and military spouses to share what their veteran business communities look like by using #VetBiz, joining the SBA and local stakeholders in the ongoing online conversation.
