Zimbabwe Is To Celebrate CoinFest In April

For the first time in the history of Coinfest, it will be celebrated in the Southern African country of Zimbabwe. This global event which was conceived to incentivize Cryptocurrency acceptance while educating the public about its importance and use has been celebrated in more than 16 countries in the past five years.

Speaking to the CoinPedia in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, Pretty Manyewe, Events Manager of Africa Blockchain University, the organizers of the festival unveiled the week-long event will feature various activities. The festival which is dubbed CoinFest Zim 2018 has the theme, ‘Leveraging Blockchain Technologies for Socio-Political and Economic Development.’

She maintained:

“We want to use the festival to stimulate mainstream discourse around Blockchain adoption in Zimbabwe. The week will engage the public and policymakers to look into the opportunities Blockchain Technologies present with the objective to sway public policy towards adoption. That is our motivation.”

Zimbabwe Needs Blockchain

She explained that her country will do unborn and younger generations more good than harm if it could take the technology serious. Therefore the African Blockchain University is set to run events that will enlighten the public and those who can influence public policy during the week.

Pretty also told Coinpedia that the National Television and Radio (ZBC and SFM) are the media partners for the festival. She believes this move will help publicize the event to all Zimbabweans

Some of the activities lined up for CoinFest Zim 2018 includes, Celebrating Altcoins, Crypto Mining and Understanding ICO Day, A Public Lecture, Inter-University Blockchain Quiz Competition, Crypto Bazar, Exhibitions, Bitcoin Vs. Bitcoin Cash Debate among others.

Pretty revealed the topic for the Lecture is the theme of the festival. In attendance will be members of Parliament, Academia, Media, Central Bank officials, Banks, business and Industry.

“Dr. Henri Thompson, CEO of Strategic Global Investment Africa, the premier African Cryptocurrency company is the keynote speaker for the lecture,” she stated. “It’s our expectation the event will spark discussions around the Blockchain space in this country.”

Andrew Wagner, Founder of CoinFest is excited about Zimbabwe, where Cryptocurrency is filling the gap in the midst of a severe cash crisis joining the celebration this year. He says: “I think it’s a great feeling. There’s actually a $10 trillion bill from Zimbabwe framed on the wall of the DCTRL hackspace here in Vancouver, so it’s kind of amusing for CoinFest to actually go there.
