It encourages poultry and livestock growth and enhances the food conversion rate. In poultry, pigs, cattle, and other animals, it is used to improve weight gain and feeding efficiency.

It has also been shown that flavomycin decreases the frequency of transferable drug resistance in Gram-negative enteropathogens and reduces the excretion in pigs, calves, and chickens of pathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella.
