How to Motivate Yourself to Exercise & Get Fit

How to push yourself to exercise regularly & get fit

Motivating yourself to do something you should do or want to do is not easy. I know this first hand especially when it comes to exercising. You decide you want to get fit and start working out but you get caught up in the little details, making it harder than it really is.

First of all, let me tell you this: you can Exercise anywhere! You don’t need to hit the gym on a daily basis or go out running every morning. You can use your bodyweight and work out at home to get the body you want.

Second of all, you don’t need to exercise daily and for many hours each day. You can just go for a 20-60 minute workout 3-4 times a week and still get the body you want.

With that said, how do you push yourself to commit to your exercise routine? What do you need to do to get on track and not lose sight of your fitness goals? Read more here to find out.

Get fit with these tested tips:

  • Put on your workout clothes

It is much harder to plop yourself on the couch if you are wearing your exercise clothes. So go ahead, wear something you like, that fits and looks good on you and you are already one step closer to achieving your fitness goals. Many people prefer bright colors. I personally prefer black or grey pants with solid color tops.

  • Have a post workout journal

We often bail out on our workouts because we are tired, busy, stressed or have too many things to cross off our to-do list. However, once we do exercise, it’s endorphins time! Make sure you jot down how you feel after you are done with your exercise for the day so you can keep motivating yourself to go back for more.

  • Mix it up reguarly

Doing the same exercises over and over again is a guaranteed recipe for boredom! In order to stay on track with your goals and get fit, you need to mix it up every now and then. So instead of using the treadmill for cardio, go for a run outdoors. Also, try attending some classes such as pilates, body pump or zumba to burn off those extra calories while having some fun!

  •  Add your workout to your to-do list

Your ‘me time’ is as important as any other item on your to-do list. This is why you need to add your exercise time to your calendar to motivate yourself to commit to it. Once it is in there, you are less likely to ditch it and do something else.

  • Surround yourself with motivation

It is harder to reach your fitness goals if you are doing it on your own. It is even harder when the people around you fail to motivate you or say things that will bring you down. This is why it’s important to surround yourself with people who can help you stay on track. Moreover, take time to read motivational quotes and stories that will encourage and stimulate you when you just don’t feel like it.

  • Join group workouts

A year ago, I was dragging myself to the gym 3-4 times a week. I hated every second of it. Everything changed when I started going to classes and now I am addicted to group exercises! Actually, I go to 7 classes a week and I love every second of them all. If you want that extra motivation, you should try group classes too. Nothing is better for motivation than some healthy competition and that group energy!

  • Stop eating junk

Eating unhealthy food is one of the worst things you can do when you are trying to get fit. Actually, processed and high sugar foods can make you feel tired, lazy and grumpy too. To stay motivated and see changes in your body, you need to eat healthy foods at the right times.

How do you stay motivated and committed to your exercise routine? We’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.
