24-hour disinfection drive in Dubai

  • The measures started on Saturday, April 4, 2020 for a period of two weeks. It will be renewed.
  • People are not allowed to leave houses. Only those who work in vital sectors, and those who go out for essential purposes are exempted.
  • Those who leave home must wear a mask and gloves. They should keep social distance from others.

According to Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management, a round-the-clock sterilization program in Dubai is being done. All areas and communities in Dubai are included to protect the health and safety of the society. Besides, there will be restrictions on the movement of people as well as vehicles.

The measures started from April 4, 2020 and will be continued in two weeks. Also, extensive medical tests will be done across highly populated communities of Dubai. All of these measures are to keep people free of Covid-19.

These measures require any individual to stay at home during this period. Food retail outlets including Union cooperative stores and supermarkets, in addition to pharmacies and food deliveries are permitted to operate as usual.

The Committee recommended people to comply with the new safety measures. Besides, it stressed that all the violators will face legal action.

Exceptions from restrictions for individuals (General Public)

People can leave home only for necessary purposes as outlined below. All people leaving home must wear a mask, gloves and ensure they maintain social distance from others. Individuals are allowed to go out only for:

Essential needs including buying food from Food Supply Outlets such as supermarkets; only one family member can leave the house for this purpose.

Getting medical assistance from healthcare centers such as hospitals, clinics and pharmacies

Employees permitted to leave the house:

VITAL SECTORS

These categories are exempted from restrictions:

– Food supply outlets (supermarkets, Union Cooperative outlets, groceries)

– Healthcare services (Hospitals, clinics and pharmacies)

– Delivery services (Food and medicine)

– Medicines and healthcare providers in addition to medical supplies

– Restaurants (only home delivery)

– Industrial supply chain for basic goods

– Industrial Sector (only vital industries)

– Water and electricity sector such as petrol and gas stations as well as district cooling services

– Telecommunications sector

– Media sector

– Airports, airlines, ports, shipping

– Customs duty and border crossings

– Public and private security services

– Municipality services, public and private service providers involved in sewage management, garbage collection, and general cleaning and sanitation

– Private and government sectors involved in combating the coronavirus (COVID-19).

– Public transport including buses and taxis only. Metro and tram services are suspended during this situation.

– Construction sector

SUPPORT SECTORS

(Employees who work in these sectors are allowed to go to work from 8.00 am to 2.00 pm)

– Banking and financial services (banks and exchange centres)

– Social welfare services.

– Laundry services (for permitted outlets)

– Maintenance services

All people are required to comply with these measures. Violators will face legal actions.
