A Shoe is something everybody uses and it is normally used to protect our foot. We use shoes when reaching places but we are also concerned about the styling part, that is fashion is also an honest concern.

Shoes are available in different styles and sizes and price variants. Obviously, everyone wants to look attractive and it is the nature desire. This is so because our shoes contribute to our fashion and beauty. Shoes also say something about a symbol of fashion while providing real comfort to our foot.

Shoes Reflect our Styling Preferences

Everyone looks on the type of shoes we are wearing and gets some hint on what as a person we prefer. The shape, size and colour of shoes tell a lot about us. In short shoes reflect our personality.

Parts of our Footwear

Though each one of us wears footwear, seldom we know about the parts they are made up of. Now we will look at various parts and know what they are called! Please note that some terms refer to parts that all shoes have such as the sole, while other terms may only apply to certain types or style of shoe.

Sole

The bottom of the shoe. This is the part we stand on and it protects the bottom of our foot.

Heel

The rear bottom part is known as the Heel and obviously, it supports our heel. Women often like bigger heels to raise their height, but they also use bigger heels to signify fashion, confidence and style.

There are different types of shoes like Men’s shoes, women’s shoes, Athletic shoes, Dance shoes, Work shoes, historical shoes, Dress and casual shoes.

Linings

Most shoes include a lining on the inside of the shoe, around the vamp (the section of upper that covers the front of the foot as far as the back as the joint of the quarter) and quarter (The rear and sides of the upper that covers the heel that are behind the vamp). These linings improve comfort, and can help increase the lifespan of the shoe.

Outsole

This is the part which comes in contact with the surface, e.g. road is called the Outsole. This part may be one piece or in turn may have many layers, from different materials. Sometimes this part has multiple colours, just to show the different pieces it has.

Midsole

The shock absorber placed between the outsole and insole is called as Midsole. Every different company uses materials as per their understanding. Some use thick foam, others use thick rubber and there are hundreds of variants. Some even us a type of air-filled layer which gives a padded effect. It adds comfort for the wearer, while hiding the join between the upper.

Puff

A reinforcement inside the Upper which gives the toe its shape and proper support. The functionality is just like the toe cap, but very essential indeed.

Seat

This is where the heel sits in the shoe. It normally matches the shape of the heel for comfort and support.

Toe Cap

Shoes may have a toe cap in the front upper of the shoe. Many a time the stitched over toe caps are decorative, but highlight an important aspect. This section is reinforced to protect the toes. Toe caps help add stength to the upper front of the shoe, an area that receives a lot of stress and wear from use.

Top Piece

This is the part of the heel that comes in contact with the ground. It is usually made of a durable material that helps maintain friction with the ground.

Upper

The upper part which we all see, has the most designs and colours and it helps hold the shoe onto the foot.

Welt
This is a strip of special material that usually joins the upper to the sole. Though most of the times it is seamless, but nowadays even this is used to show off some style.

Different Types of Shoes

Visit any website and you find there are different types of shoes including Men’s shoes, Dress and casual shoes, Athletic shoes, Dance shoes, Work shoes and many other varieties can be seen. Now can you pick any shoe and easily identify the various parts? Think about it!
