President Trump’s claim of Mail-in Voter Fraud and response from Christopher Wray

US President Donald Trump earlier claimed that mail-in ballots are being used for widespread voter fraud. Now, the director of the Federal Board of Investigation, Christopher Wray has refuted an often-repeated and unsubstantiated claim by the US President. Wray appeared before the Senate homeland security committee on Thursday. He said the agency had not seen any kind of coordinated national voter fraud effort in a major election historically, whether it’s by mail or otherwise. Wray said, “We have seen voter fraud at the local level from time to time, to change a federal election outcome by mounting that kind of fraud at scale would be a major challenge for an adversary. But, people should make no mistake that we’re vigilant as to the threat and watching it carefully”.

Wray’s comments came in response to a question about whether Americans should feel safe voting by mail in the 2020 election. It is a clear rebuke to President Trump’s repeated claims that mail-in ballots are vulnerable to fraud. President Donald Trump made a number of false statements about the safety of mail-in ballots over the past couple of months. Point to be noted that the coronavirus epidemic has started an increase in demand for the use of mail-in ballots option. President Trump said in April, “Mail ballots are a very dangerous thing for this country because they’re cheaters. They’re fraudulent in many cases”.

President Trump tweeted last month that the mail-in ballot fraud and abuse will be an embarrassment to our country. It is noteworthy that Donald Trump has not provided any evidence to match his assertions. It might seem counterintuitive for a president to attack a method of voting that is also used by his own supporters. But, polls suggest that a far greater number of Democrats plan to vote by mail in the US Presidential Election 2020. A recent survey shows at least one-third of American voters have planned to vote by mail-in ballots option on 3rd November 2020. It says 48% of Americans need to vote Joe Biden and 23% for President Trump by mail.
