“Excited to Serve the People,” Says Yusuf Pathan Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections

Former cricketer and TMC candidate from West Bengal’s Berhampore Lok Sabha constituency, Yusuf Pathan, expressed his enthusiasm for entering politics, stating that he is now ready to solve people’s problems and serve them.

In an interview with ANI, Pathan shared his sentiments, saying, “It feels good to come into politics from the sports field. I am talking to people. I will now be able to solve people’s problems and serve them. This makes me feel good.”

Previously, cricketer-turned-politician Yusuf Pathan had expressed his commitment to ensuring employment opportunities for the residents of his constituency, encouraging them to stay with their families.

When asked about the reported large-scale outmigration of workers from Murshidabad, Pathan commented, “I will try to make most of the people from here work here and stay with their families. It is also a question of individual choice.”

Reflecting on his reception in Murshidabad, Pathan expressed gratitude, saying, “The love I have received here, I hope it remains. When I see it in the people’s eyes, it seems that they are seeking change. All these motivate me to work for them.”

He also noted the positive involvement of youth in politics, emphasizing their desire for change and their search for effective leadership.

Meanwhile, the ruling party in the state, TMC, announced a list of star campaigners for Phase 2 of polling for the Lok Sabha scheduled on April 26.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, the TMC secured 34 seats in the state, while the BJP won 2 seats. However, the BJP showed improvement in the 2019 polls, winning 18 seats against TMC’s 22. Polling for the Lok Sabha in Bengal will occur across all 7 phases, starting April 19, with the counting of votes scheduled for June 4.
