PM Modi to visit Japan next week to attend Shinzo Abe’s state funeral

The official funeral for former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is scheduled for the next week in Japan, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be there.

The prime minister will separately meet with Fumio Kishida, the prime minister of Japan, during his brief visit.
The former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe will be laid to rest in Japan on September 27, 2022, and the visit will also include a meeting between Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Fumio Kishida, according to a statement from the ministry of external affairs (MEA).

The official funeral for Abe is slated to take place on September 27 by the Japanese government. According to Japan’s news agency, the event will take place in the Nippon Budokan stadium in the Kitanomaru National Garden in Tokyo.

One of India’s most important regional allies is Japan, which collaborates in the Quad structure of comprehensive partnership with the United States and Australia. Both during and after Abe’s administration, Modi and Abe remained cordial.

Abe extended an invitation to PM Modi to stay at his family’s house in the Yamanashi prefecture during one of PM Modi’s official visits to Japan in 2018, a gesture indicating exceptionally close ties between the two leaders.

As part of his trip to Japan to attend the Quad meeting, Modi met Abe earlier in May, almost two years after the Japanese PM resigned.

While giving a lecture in the city of Nara on 8 July, Abe was attacked.

He was aware right away after being shot in the back, according to the police, but while he was shifting, his condition deteriorated and he went into cardiac and pulmonary arrest. He was declared dead by a nearby hospital later that day.

PM Modi proclaimed one day of national mourning in India following Abe’s assassination.

Additionally, PM Modi wrote a blog post titled “My Friend, Abe San.” “Japan and the entire world have lost a brilliant visionary with Abe’s passing. I too lost a close friend “He had said.

The second state funeral for a former prime minister since World War 2 will be held for Abe on September 27.

Shigeru Yoshida was the recipient of the first one in 1967. A joint Cabinet Office and Liberal Democratic Party service was provided to other prime ministers.
